This thread is being kicked off to discuss AFFLICTION talent builds with all the changes happening each patch. Please note this thread is for DISCUSSION of builds. Don't fill it up with 'what's the best build, is this a good build, can someone give me a build' type reponses. More discussions, less spoon feeding! Feel free to shoot me an email if there are certain builds you'd like linked into this first post to discuss. thewarlocksden[at]gmail[dot]come. Make sure you include a WoWhead link of the build and a short paragraph (or more) on why you think it's worth using.

Not sure how much there is to discuss on this one for raiding. Something very close to 53/1/17 should be the spec of choice. The only 3 points I see as somewhat optional are those placed in fel synergy and demonic power. This should still be one of the best scaling specs around (probably only outdone by the newly buffed destro). Reasoning is as follows: - Suppression: The itemization of Ulduar items point towards this being useless - personally I'm fighting to keep my hit low enough to not get wasted even without this. - Improved drain soul could help out on some of the movement fights where the tank has a hard time building threat, but if you give him a headstart and know how to use soulshatter this should NEVER be an issue. - Amplify curse is a filler spec imo, most of the benefit will probably be eaten by haste and lag in combination, but none the less it is still a buff - Grim reach, if you put point in this you will have to put points in destructive reach as well - double points spent for a relatively low benefit. Granted - if it buffed both specs it would be a no-brainer for me, since it reduces the need to move more than the numbers suggest. - Improved felhunter/dark pact combination is just too weak compared to life tap - and you pretty much have to put points in improved lifetap anyway. Why Blizz didn't choose to combine those talents in some way is beyond me - Fel synergy, despite avoidance, chain heals on the melee etc. the succy is still the victim of considerable damage - this makes it easier to forget about her - Demonic power, this is only worth it if you use the succy (which you should, since it is the most powerful pet for afflic when doomguard is on CD ofc), if you use the imp this talent will simply burn through his mana and leave a machine-gun with no ammo (note that this is not true for destro if you have imp soul leech) |

Re: [Patch 3.1.2] AFFLICTION Talent Build Discussion
53/1/16 for me I get both rollback effects; 2/3 afflic, 1/2 destro. That with concentration and I never have issues cuse nothing bother me more than roll back on spell casting. amp curse is a must, even if you only see its benefit on applying dots during initial attack, gets things ticking faster even by .5 sec can mean alot. Drain soul i avoid, even with the benefit for threat, now if they added in range +threat like they did for destro, hell yea id put a point in it and a point in the destro one. Most people should have life tap glyph, so 1 pt in imp'd tap is fine cuse you wanna use your glyph anyways. Demonic pact i find useless, i know it should increase dps on pet, but I never see it on my meters, wws or anything. As long as pet doing consistent 200+dps im happy with it. Interestingly, I was screwing round with coe, agony and doom curses for 5 min fights on dummy and tested on some mimi wipes. Rather startling, but elements out does agony still, even for an affliction lock. I really would like to see agony get another 5% damage buff at the very least. -- Should be able to see my rig on your left. |

Why are people using the sucy as affi now? I tried it and her dps sucked big time.... around 180dps.... my imp does 240dps and he never runs out of mana.... Even in really long fights he never runs out. Can someone show me the simcraft or something on this so i can get some proof on it. I would hate to be wrong about something that could help my dps some. TY |

I am currently specced 53/01/17 (The World of Warcraft Armory) Moreover I need to change some of my gear and will obviously loose hit points. What suggestions you have to add points to suppression now ? and which points should I take ? |

Re: [Patch 3.1.2] AFFLICTION Talent Build Discussion
I still am using suppression at the moment for it's 6% mana reduction on affliction spells, but am starting to wonder if it's worth it. I'm starting to think it's not and for the 3% hit I don't need it at all considering the insane amount of hit stats you get on some of the gear that comes from Ulduar. In fact I recently got 3 pieces of loot that almost alone made me cap hit. I've actually started to pass on some of the loot that contains hit and waiting for loot the does not contain hit stats. Still indecisive about how to spend the 3 points, but I'll figure something out. Last edited by Spikeface; May 16, 2009 at 01:06 AM.. |

Taking back my reply above. With the 53/0/18 spec, I do think suppression is the best option to go for. Simply because the other options can't beat it from a PvE raiding point of view. |

Delenn 80 Blood Elf Warlock Kul Tiras US PvE Guild: is an epic mount Profile: Blizzard Armory Talent Spec: 53/1/17 |
Hi, all. I am a bit confused. I just dual-specced from a deep demo (2/51/18) where I could do 2000-2500 dps to a deep affliction (53/1/17) hoping for better dps. In my first instance (just tried H UK, something easy for my first time with this spec), I was only doing 1600-1900 dps. I think I just don't know how to play the spec and still have some gear to get. My rotation typically was: Life Tap - SB - Haunt - UA - Corr - Curse of Agony - SB , rinse and repeat as DOTs die, spamming SB and switching to Drain Soul when < 25%. I also have 2/2 in Demonic Power, so I was using the Succy or Felhunter, experimenting around. Any suggestions on how to improve my dps here? Anything goes! Thanks in advance! |

Yeah, your spec, gems etc are all wrong. Study the stickies a little and it'll all clear up for you. |
