Nothing can be said about improving your dps that hasn't been said 100 times before in various other threads. Browse back through the posts over the last few months. 25% of them are "oh, my dps sucks, what do I do?" 1/2 of the responses are pretty much the same, the other 1/2 are off-collar. Your topic has been completely beat to death in these forums. ...which opens this thread up to the comments in question.

Now, does that mean no one can ask a question thats been asked already? No, of course not. But one thing that's guaranteed to turn 1/2 your readers off is saying "boohoo, this sucks. I'm going to quit". Your topic pissed off most of the readers before they even read the first line (which is where the "okay leave" comments stem from). If you're not prepared to deal with the realities of a video game forum, you have NO business posting imo. Granted, this forum imo is 100 times better than the official forum, but its still a forum.

You should have just stuck with reading. Some call it research.

Re: I'm about to quit this game

Winter, DPS is simple. Gear and fight mechanics are limiting factors, but once the fight starts, excellence boils down to doing the right thing at the right time. In the same fight, wildly inconsistent results can almost always be traced to player decisions: what to target, which spell to cast, where/when to move. Randomness plays a part too, but that tends to even out.

We can give advice on gearing, gems and enchants. That part is easy math. You can read about boss strategies and watch videos. You're not competing for world firsts. But in the end, it's up to you to execute the fight and make the right choices at the right times. There's no magic bullet, no secret answer here.

It sounds like you've managed to tie your anxiety about progression in ICC to your anxiety about performance consistency, loot drops and future raid invites. On top of that, you're unsure whether you even want to keep playing at all. Those are a lot of issues that can be dealt with separately. Getting more consistent DPS won't necessarily solve any of the other worries you have. Focusing on them one at a time might be more productive than angsting about them as a whole.

Good luck.

people look at meters on blood princes???

that's a survival fight, not a dps race.

If you love meters, reroll a holy pali or mage/Hunter/rogue.

Re: I'm about to quit this game

Disable Damage meter and every other non-raid addon. Post a screen shot of your UI, by the sounds of your responses you probably have recount so far from your raid zone view(center screen) that you're missing simple things.

Re: I'm about to quit this game

The thread has clearly advanced on from the initial tone, but honestly, I read more frustration than 'whining' in the OP's post and don't see any reason for the 'man up' type answers.

I'm not saying 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything'... that's clearly nonsense. Just keep in mind that a lot of what you read in a post is your own interpretation (is he whining or just pissed off?) and don't make too many assumptions, especially if you're going to take it as a license get personal.

Re: I'm about to quit this game

heathisrae - Perhaps Im missing something minor (I believe I mentioned that) but thats what I'm trying to work out.

Aurelie - I dunno what happened that time but I looked after the fight and noticed I did 4.6k which was appauling. Then the raid leader mentioned people who aren't up to scratch won't be invited.

Beryo - Feel free to armory me. I've been looking around and it seems every spec uses Supression, I'm way over hit cap (surprised nobody mentioned that) but can't switch out at this point.

Aurelie - I don't normally look at recount during the fight just at the end.

Teon - http://i47.tinypic.com/2n7dyr8.jpg

I've been playing around with Destro, I got invited to the guild to go as Affliction. I haven't had any chance to do ICC or anything other than a heroic testing my new spec.

One thing I've noticed: Affliction in heroics isn't great due to its ramp-up time, etc. Destruction usually works very well in heroics.

Currently, in the raids I participate in (two Locks: I'm Destruction, the other Lock is Affliction), Affliction beats Destruction on the last 35% or so of the boss fights thanks to the execution phase. However, if add-switching a lot, Destruction works best (according to the metres).

In my view, heroics don't allow much room for Affliction to truly shine, while dummies don't often reach that execute phase where this spec comes alive.

* Empahsis mine

From the screenshot, I can't tell if you keep the metres up during fights and ignore them, since it shows practice on a dummy. But, I used to keep Recount or Skada up during fights. And while I would ignore them, too, and look at the metres properly after the fight, I'd find myself glancing at them occasionally, or noticing them during the event. For me, that's not truly ignoring them. And, I realised the action added subconscious stress. I hid the metres one day, and just concentrated on the fight, doing what I had to, then reviewed at the end of it. Happily, my Damage Dealt / DPS had shot up.

Perhaps the metres are a subconscious distraction / stress? If you don't already, you might try hiding them till after the fight's over?

Hope this helps some.

Cheers,
Tayles.

Perhaps, at least it has some psycological effect, but for some people this may even be a positive effect, imagine some runners in olympics, they do like to know how fast they've ran so far, and if they have competition, it surely helps them to run faster. As long as looking at meters won't distract you from what's going on.

Very true.

IMO, it's just a case of trying various methods, etc., to find the one that works for the individual.

Ok I did ICC tonight (Won DFO ^^) and couldn't work out exactly how to use World of Logs but was playing around on the test dummy and got this:
World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis

I dunno if it'll help much but if somebody can tell me what to do with World of Logs.
