Fights are more than just Patchwerk. Keep the expectations realistic. Nobody's ever going to pull 20k DPS on Lich King, at least in level 80 gear. Some people expect to pull ideal DPS all the time. Ain't gunna happen, fellas.

  1. Not using the right addon(poweraura/tellmewhen for proc), xperl,dotimer/fortexcorcist for timer
  2. Too slow on target switching. Stop using mouse but use macro instead ! targetForMe is a nice addon that will provide you one macro for every target switch in icc.
  3. Wrong timing with meta in demono. Learn to time your meta. the rules is to use it as often as possible but try to wait and activate it during bl/decimation if you know you won't be able to use it once more. The key is to know the fight lenght(and so the raid dps). If your fight will last less that 2min 35 then keep your meta for bl or decimate.TimeToDie is a decent addon that will try to guess for you how much time remains
  4. keybinding is not an option. Throw that mouse away !

Thanks for all the comments, I've incorporated some of them into the list. It's really intended to be something that newer or less experienced Warlocks can just take a look at and think... 'oh, maybe that's my problem' rather than a list of solutions. Hopefully these Warlocks will then read the various guides & conversations that we have here in the Den rather than ask vague and general questions (yeah, I know... not going to happen, but...).

Also, it's meant to be a beginner top 10 rather than specific tips for getting the pros that extra 1%. If someone's interested in putting a guide for min/maxing that would also be welcome (just make it a little friendlier than Elitist Jerks, please...)

1. Not spamming your buttons fast enough

I genuinely reckon that technique (spamming) trumps everything else, and that a lock with the right technique could use tanking gems and enchants and still beat someone with correctly gemmed and enchanted gear who tries to time their keypresses (never mind clicks).

Common missed one is training the last rank... I've seen several people switch specs but not train the last rank of their new spells wondering why their spells hit like a wet noodle.

You're welcome! Yeah, realized as I was writing this that within the next few months it will go in the 'old documents' folder, but suppose I can always up date it for Cataclysm!

Using PVP gear for PVE. We see so much of this in the "help me, I'm broken" forum.

Nice post idea btw. Hopefully it won't be all too often ignored like the FAQ.
