Re: CoA or CoS?

It all depends on how fast the mobs are dying. You just have to get a feel for it on whether or not it will be worth it to cast certain dots. Some mobs take longer to kill. Sometimes you'll have sick dps in the group.

Almost always you should at least cast corruption. It's instant cast, one of your most powerful dots, and gives the tank a little bit of time to establish aggro before landing some big SB's.

Here's a list of possible dots I throw on mobs, ranging from mobs that die quickest, to mobs that take awhile (boglords):

Corr > SB
Corr > UA > SB
Curse of Agony > UA > Corr > SB
Curse of Agony > UA > Corr > SL > SB
Curse of Agony > UA > Corr > SL > Immo> SB (I only use immo if I know I'll get every tick out of it)

Really though you'll just have to get a feel of how fast the mob will die and determine if its worth using certain dots. Also have to factor in how fast your tank needs to build aggro. It doesn't work to say one way is perfect for all trash mobs.

Another strategy is to time out the casting of UA so that it lands as soon as the tank hits the mob, quickly followed by corruption and SB spam. Works great if a tank is about to break CC (just be sure he really is about to break it).

Re: CoA or CoS?

Back to the shock about CoS....

CoS in a larger raid is a near must have. Curse of Agony/CoD are always filler once the damage increaser curses are down (or at least elements and shadows).

If 2 or more people use a damage type as a primary damage source, the corresponding curse should go down. If you have two shadow locks, 4 fire mages, 3 moonkin and a shadow priest for example, curse of agony or doom should not go up until all the mages die, or the moonkin, shadow priest and one lock do. Or you're a bad and selfish warlock :P

Re: CoA or CoS?

MAPS.com is your answer...trash mobs in 5 man heroics go down very fast, I use CoS and spam bolts, depending on the tank...if it's a Pally tank which usually aoe tank throw SoC and switch targets each time so you don't pull threat on just one target. I don't know if this helped but I tried...my first post on a thead!

Re: CoA or CoS?

If your destruction spec and the only shadow damage caster, use Curse of Agony on trash mobs and spam SB. If they die really quick cast CoS and spam SB.

Any time you have a shadow priest, use CoS.

I think alot of locks forget about CoR on boss fights too. Just have to choose when to use it. Helps out alot if your raid is rollin with alot of melee. It's more effective on bosses that have less armor. Certain bosses you should leave it off. Like tidewalker. He hits hard enough as it is and has high armor.

Re: CoA or CoS?

Leaving CoS on the trash mobs and spamming SBs would be better than Curse of Agony. That's why geared (Not those pre-T6 wannabes) 0/21/40 locks just spam Shadowbolts.

Re: CoA or CoS?

Curse of Agony on trash? never used it... Well, being affliction i never use Curse of Agony at all CoS or CoD only Heroic trash - Corr only (for the NF procs). Trash mobs don't live long enough for any dot (except Immo)... Sometimes i don't have enough time to cast second SB On ZA trash - CoS, UA, Corr, SB or CoS, Corr, SB. If Pally tank - SoC, tab, SoC, tab, SoC...
