chaingun imp VS UA at lvl 54
I am a level 54 all affliction lock right now, that rarely does anything but PvE (PvP is pretty much limited to raid defense and the occasional BG). The longer i play the more i am coming to realize that having UA is almost useles to me. I use it in place of immolate, so losing it wouldnt be that big of a hit to me. so I came up with this build (for all I know this may be close to some standard build) http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=AAMri0fkMzZzZxxbz My next 2 talent points would be put into maxing imp imp , and then the 3 points after that would go into maxing shadow mastery. Basically, I would lose UA, 6% damage / drained in SM, the 5% damage / 30% less dispell in contagion and insta-cast iHoT. But I gain a ton of DPS with chaingun imp, 400 or so instant damage with shadowburn and and I keep DP for instances, and the +stam buff from having my imp out all the time. Is this a feasible build? Will the mobs I fight drop faster this way and still leave me with very little down time? By keeping my imp out all the time, i will draw more aggro I think, would this be a big problem? or would the imp draw aggro and, being a fragile creature, die alot? I only use my imp now for a mana machine, would he generate enough mana to be able to fling firebolts and still have enough for the occasional tap from dark pact? Any suggestions or thoughts on what should be changed would be much appreciated also! Last edited by badkarma138; January 27, 2007 at 01:55 AM.. |

Re: chaingun imp VS UA at lvl 54
I tried the machinegun-imp for half a day while waiting for BC to come out. It was very fun (had my imp solo a few allies), but it's not something I'd ever want to do in Outland. Unless you're gonna stay on constant fear-duty, you'll have a hard time keeping your imp from getting hit.. and in Outland, two hits would probably be enough.

I think this would work better.... I had lil mr. chaingun on a level 60 varient of this and he was great in 5 man instances http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=NV0bZcxczIizcxsdxxbz with the BC addition of Mana Feed he doesn't run out of juice so fast... I was limited to using him ever other fight befor PEWPEWPEW! Last edited by iiada; January 27, 2007 at 03:25 AM.. |

if your gonna use machine gun imp, i would take the point out of dark pact... i dont think theres much chance of your imp leaving you alot of mana to drain... |

I respecced to this build a few days ago, and I found the only problem I have with the imp out is when i draw more than 1 or 2 mobs at a time, and the imp runs out of mana. So when I think ill be hitting 3 mobs at a time, I will bring out the VW and just drain tank like I did as a straight affliction build. the loss of UA doesnt hurt that much, as I use immolate + shadowburn to make up the damage difference. I realize its not a perfect build, and im sure i wont keepit for long (maybe till I hit level 58, if that) but it is a fun build (its cool seeing a fireball hit the mob just as immolate does and another fireball is already on the way), and breaks up the monotony of the straight dot-dot-dot-wait for it to die affliction build. for the 8 gold total it cost me (plus the 14 or so when i respec to a real build) it was well worth it i think, just for the fun factor. |

Re: chaingun imp VS UA at lvl 54
There are quite a few "chaingun imp" threads these days... It will tear up a mob, maybe two, but that's about it. Whenever you start a quest with clustered mobs of two or three, you're going to have to switch to your voidwalker anyway. It's just really inefficent and it really is a toy in comparison with other talent specs. The Imp will aggro when he generates more threat than you. Meaning, he's hitting your mob for 300+ damage a pop at a speedy interval, and your dots aren't even doing that much damage per second. You'll have to nuke the mob to get it interested in you. Then you have to drain the mob so you don't take too much damage. Then you get an add, your imp's out of mana, or dead, and you're in battle by yourself. More than likely survive, then you have to summon another imp, eat and drink, then go on to the next mob... The imp is a better mana battery then he is a chain gun. |
