Re: Top raid guild specs

Interesting. I know I've looked at some of DnT's locks' specs a little while back. Most of them were Affliction.

As for 30/21/10, it is "sucktastic." I agree. For PvP and farming it leaves a lot to be desired. In raids though, the damage really racks up on boss fights. My regular shadowbolt is hitting for just a little under 2K damage. It's pretty much the same than having your Sbolts hitting for 1600 non-crit, and an occasional crit for 3200, just without the fear of chain critting and pulling aggro.

It didn't sound like the poster in the thread had too much raid experience with it (it also helps to have played 9/21/21 pre-BC). To each his own I guess.

In a raid situation I almost always have to have my imp out, so a DS build is not viable.

Re: Top raid guild specs

I specced out from 0/21/40 to 43/0/18

Bottom line Fire was great static fight dps..but I couldnt go all out, and if the fight required movement I was in trouble.

I have 1057 Shadow atm (with 2 pieces of Shadowweave still to be equipped/spellstrike) and Affliction with UA is unstoppable. Shadow priest synergy is superb.

Guess this goes to prove Theorycrafting provces very little out in the field.

Re: Top raid guild specs

I just changed my spec last night due to some things I noticed during Karazhan runs...

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=Ax0bZfx00cZxx0tr0tVzAo

Now there are a couple of strange looking choice in there I'd like to explain. Please bear in mind that this is a strictly PvE build. I have no interest in organized PvP, and ganking the occasional hordie is plenty for me.

In affliction, I skipped right over Imp Corr, instead stacking all the way up in suppression and getting Imp Lifetap. I noticed that Corruption acounted for < 10% of my overall damage, and had very low mana efficency compared to my nukes. I put this towards my spec, the massive CC that prevents multiple targets being DoTed, and the speed with which focus-fired mobs drop. Boss fights showed the same thing. The heavy fire build does little for corruption, and from a mana efficiency standpoint, and I'm better off casting another nuke. With suppression, I previously had 2 points in it, and noticed a fair amount of resists. I doubled my hit rating (gear change) and saw some improvement, but decided to max it out. Last night I was much better running with 5/5 suppression and +32 hit. I didn't swap up to my +60 hit to test, but I'm sure it will all but negate resisted spells.

I picked up demo talents as my suplement. Imp Imp and Imp HS for the raid don't need any explanation. I personally like Demonic Embrace for the stamina boost, and demonis aegis is just great.

In destro, I passed over Backlash and Nether Protection for Soul Leech, and its the best change I've made to this build. I find that Nether Protection procs often, but that I normally don't take back-to-back-to-back fire or shadow damage, so the proc always goes wasted. The same goes for backlash. If I'm getting hit, I'm not doing damage because I'm trying to drop aggro, and all my backlash procs go wasted, except for the very rare procs off of random charges. Soul Leech actually helps my mana problems a lot. In sustained fights, I often heal myself the cost of multiple lifetaps, and had a fair bit of over-healing. As a raid talent, I think its hugely under-rated.

I've always been a destro-lock, and will always be a destro-lock. So far i'm out damaging the mages, sitting dead-even with our top hunter, and getting beat by our top rogue by a small amount. Without going 0/21/40 I don't think that will change, but I would give up too much benefit to the raid to do that.

Yeah, that does seem strange. If you are nuking, why the 5 points in Suppression? Is it just to make your fears and curses stick? Suppression does not affect the hit rate of anything but DoTs and Curses.

Backlash includes 3% crit, not simply instant nukes.

is what I would do if I wanted a resilient destro build and didn't mind skipping corruption.

But hey, if it works for you, glad you like your spec

I am not positive of her exact build, but myself 7/7/47 and with her at almost full affliction, she and I trade #1 in dps back and forth. Me pulling ahead on boss fights, her pulling ahead on 5-7 pulls where she can dot multiples.

I dont' know why peopel have trouble grinding with a 30/21/10 build, I rocked a 3x/21/0 build from 60 to 70 and had approx. 30 seconds of downtime every 30 minutes or so.

The key is saccing a felhunter, not a succi or void.

Afflocks have enough health regen to grind multiple mobs, the sacced void buff is often wasted, as you need to get hit harder than you are regenerating (ie 400-700 DPS incoming, considering 2-3 siphon life and 1 Soul Siphon Drain Life), or you need to lifetap.

For raiding, the whole theorycrafting 'stand in 1 spot, cast 1000x shadowbolts' model was fine for MC, but it has little to no bearing on reality in The Burning Crusade. I think Murmur is the only boss I have fought where I actually spent more time watching DoTimers and nuking then shuffling around, taking care of adds or something beyond a pure tank n spank.

I don't have Fel Concentration, Improved Drain Soul (10% less threat on only Affliction spells isn't enough for me) or CoEx so grinding is a little difficult. In Kara I'm the only lock and there's no shadow priest so I'm using Curse of Agony over CoS.
