Farming Spec

I'm sure most of us, if not all, have tried farming by going around DoTing everything up, AoE fear and collect loot.

I was wondering if anyone has figured the talent spec that caters to this type of farming tactic - maximizing the damage bonus from Talents and +Spell damage, not considering Spell Crit ie: Ruin.

I'm stressing my head playing with the Talent Calculator. Just to make sure, all damage bonus from Talents are before +spell damage is applied right?

Argh!

Re: Farming Spec

The Idea of iHot Dot'ing used in farming has a few stratagies to follow, but there are a few basics which always apply. It focus' on Affliction build .. with a min of 37 but closer to 45 talent points spend in Affliction.

You must have Siphion Life.
You must have 2/2 imp Howl.
You really should have Aegis.
You will have DP.
You should have Imp Imp.
You should have 5/5 DEmbrace.
You should have Imp Corr.
You should have 2/2 Imp Curse of Agony.

You need to be able to kill a mob with 3 Dots. You're Insta-casts is what you'll use; Siphion, Corr, Curse of Agony. You want to try to limit your pulls to 4, but can grab as much as 6. The reason for this is to apply 3 dots per mob and <tab> to the next does take some time. Assuming you got all Dots on the fist mob and 1-2 Dots on the second as they run to you. By the time you 3xDot 4 mobs and hit iHoT the Dots on the first mob might very well have died already.

One nice thing about doing this type of farming is that when you use iHoT you have the chance of getting adds becasue everything is running all over the place. This is a benifit, becasue it saves you from running around and getting more yourself.

If you like to partner then you would have an easier time using one of two methods. Both are faster for killing stuff over AoE Fearing.

>> Partner with a Tank/Pally/Druid .. have then gather up 6-10 mobs and hold aggro. Then you SoC on 3-4. They go Boom and you loot.

>> Partner with a Priest/Druid/Shamen/Pally and have them Heal you. You run through the field Tab 3xDot'ing all mobs. The Healer keeps some HoT's on you ahd a flash heal maybe if needed. After you have a trail of corpses behind you screaching out for a mile, Stop turn around and loot up.

>> Solo option without iHoT is to just 3xDot <Tab> mobs as you would with a Priest, just limit yourself to 3-4 at a time. Another Solo option would be to Drain Tank them .. one after another .. after another. Single Drain Tank targets as Affliction leaves you with 100% health and 100% mana after every kill. It is the Hare and Tourtise contrast. Drain Tank 100 mobs in an hour solo easy or AoE 100 mobs in an hour with more stress and coordination.

Re: Farming Spec

I comfortably farm 3-4 mobs (level 68+) at once with ease, simply by sending in my VW onto 1, giving it 5s to get aggro, planting all my dots on that, then setting my VW to attack the next target, dotting that one, then switching to next. then I life tap, until my mana is full, then target whoever has the most health left and drain life them.

I find the more im killing the more efficient I am, as long as i can keep them away from me. Basically 1 tick of siphon life = 200 health for me. the most ive handled was 8, but that was with sacrificing my VW, and blowing all my cooldowns.

but when I farm 3-4, I finish with 90%+/health and mana, then i click consume shadows and within a few seconds my VW is ready for battle and i move onto the next group.

This works amazing in the mana forges in netherstorm as the pulls are usually between 2 and 4.

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=NAMrbRfkqtbooxcZxx0z should work well

Key talents:
Imp. HoT
Dark Pact
Imp. Corruption
Shadowburn - to finish off mobs and have back up instant nukes
Imp. Drain Soul - This will reduce your downtime by a lot and allow you to Sbolt freely.
Imp. Curse of Agony - This is your curse of choice here.
CoEx - Basically an emergency option if HoT is on CD, you need to have some way of not getting beat on by multiple mobs.
UA - Need that 5th DoT.

Re: Farming Spec

I have a what I think works great for farming. 43/18/0. But it all depends on how you play. I will 3xDOT 2-4 mobs at once, and either drain life or iHOT depending on what I'm farming. I dont' end up at full health, but I can farm for a very long time with only 40% health when I start each pull. You get enough back from the drain and siphon life. I farm with my fel puppy out. It has a large mana pool, if a caster gets aggro'ed I can spell lock. And has a lot more hits than the imp.

Only change would be to try to move something into drain soul. Just have not taken the time to respec. Too much farming to do. My main farming is the fire elementals in Blade MT. I can farm for about 20 min before I really need to sit and take some food or drink. I can't tell you how many people I drive away because of the amount of mobs I can non stop pull.

And with the Healthstone 1/2, Imp 2/3 and Curse of Weakness 2/2, it's still good for raiding.

Yep wad i want to say has already been said.

However to maximize your spells, you should pair up with a shadow priest to grind, like i do. We split the loots. but usually down ten mobs at one go.

All the +shadow damage buffs plus both aoe fears are powerfull....

to answer the question of the TS: Every lock wants ruin.

BUT! If you are fully affiction you want max +damage on the dots badly. Speccing ruin when you are affiction makes you lose UA and since your want affiction gear (+damage) your crit % will be low.

Well I can say how I farm mana elementals at kirin'var village. I use imp (37/3/21) ... you can see my build in my profile ...

I can farm nonstop. I cast alll my insta dots (corr, Curse of Agony (no points in talent) and siphon life) on mage slayers and let them attack me (they does small damage), and all 3 dots on mana seekers and fear them (as they does mana burn I don't like :P) and go on ... to not lose aggro, I make my imp autocast fire shield on me ... in this way I can farm non stop ... if I get too low on mana and/or health I just drain health some mob and then I can continue with previous strategy ...

i'm 40/21/0 with demonic sac, for farming I sac a voidy. Generally I've been farming Clefthoof Bulls 4-6 at a time (limited by how many I can get to in range) or Talbuk Staghorns 8-12 at a time. I use a castsequence macro to throw up Siphon Life, Curse of Agony, Corruption. I lifetap every 3rd mob. If somehow I get uncomfortably low on health I'll drain life. I skin so by the time I skin 12 staghorns I'm back to full health/mana or close.

When I farm primal fire in blades edge I enslave one of the giant things (whisperers or w/e) to kill the other giant things, then I send it in to gather up elementals which I dot as above.

Primal mana I do a little differently than most I've seen. Still use a voidy sac, but I let them manaburn me to no mana. (usually by drain tanking the first 2 or so). Now i'm out of combat with no mana and 75% health maybe. I lifetap once, which gives me enough mana to throw my 3 dots. I dot 1, tab target lifetap dot, etc. I only keep enough mana to dot, and if i have mana and run out of stuff to dot i chain cast drain life to burn it off so manaburn does 0 damage.
