I have recently re-specced to heavy destruction build and need some advice

Having played a whole 70 levels for a whole year with SM/Ruin and from 70 for the past two months at 40/0/21 I recently respecced at the request of the guild to a heavy destruction build 5/13/43.

Have not really had that much time to "practice" the new build but anyone have any tips at all? Feels fairly alien at the moment and although I'm probably biased I didn't seem to be getting mobs I was practising on down any quicker. Am currently working on gear now to "up my crit level" and at the moment stand at around plus 648 damage with a crit rating of I think 16.7% so will work on gathering more crit items, but what is the best way to optimise damage in raiding terms? I have not gone for improved SP as I didn't think the tanks would appreciate this but other than this all the points have gone into more crit or more damage talants and I have left alone the "chance to stuns" ones.

Any advice from demo locks would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Why do you think the tanks wont like Imp Shadowbolt?

If you going for more crit then both these add up to more damage = more agro.

loading up on crit and damage means you have to worry about agro - you can get more damage with a talent in destro then go for it.

Since going destro i use seed alot more to take down groups of mobs when farming - throw a few about and shadowfury when they get close. if its not enough to take them down then drain life and finish them off with backlash procs. i can kill very large groups this way but sometimes die.

Destruction build spell rotation in a raid looks like this. And I'll assume you are throwing fire.

CoE

Corruption
Immolate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Conflag

Repeat

That's pretty much it, throwing in a shadowburn when you feel needed as well. I've been destruction at 70 for the whole time and just recently respec'd from 0/21/40 to 7/7/47 and loving it.

Re: I have recently re-specced to heavy destruction build and need some advice

7/7/47 was the original build I wanted to go for but was told that I would benefit from 3 points in demonic aegis...something I can change if I'm not entirely happy with, as someone used to an an endless supply of mana, I imagine I will miss both of these a lot, so suspect I will respec once I have improved my damage gear ;-)

Thank all for the advice its much needed....and a cycle was what I was looking for, first mob I practised on last night was immune to fire so had to resort to fear dot dot dot...I'm a DOT lock at heart :-)

Re: I have recently re-specced to heavy destruction build and need some advice

My Destro cycle in PvE was usually:

Curse
Corruption (assuming instant)
Immolate
Conflag
Immolate
Nuke
Nuke
Nuke
Lifetap
Lifetap
Conflag
[repeat as necessary]

That way, you start the conflag cooldown at the beginning of the fight, as opposed to in the middle.

For the Nuke, it depends on group makeup/curse.

If I had another Lock, Shadow Priest, or Arcane mage, I would use CoS and Shadowbolt as my nuke; for ISB.

If I had a Fire mage, I would use CoE and Incinerate as my Nuke.

If I was the only magic damage, I would use CoR to boost the physical damage, and incinerate as my nuke.

21/0/40

i have some mobility dps, and crazy single target. dropped conflol, leeaving immolate to tick is more efficient for pve.

Re: I have recently re-specced to heavy destruction build and need some advice

thats why in pve you should let immo tick all the way down and then pop conflag, pvp i can understand a quick immo/conflag combo

Re: I have recently re-specced to heavy destruction build and need some advice

my post above was for max DPS in raids/groups, not solo PvE grinding.

For efficient PvE grinding:

Pet Attack
Curse of Agony
Corruption
Immolate
Lifetap
Lifetap
Drain Life
Drain soul @ 5-10%
