Pets: spell boosting and special abilities
Thinking about talents and pets I came up with something a more generic idea that could be implemented alongside talents: The ability to cast a spell 'through' your pet, which would give it a boost. Just as an example: Imp could boost immolate. You would cast immolate without a pet up, and hit for 50-60 direct and 70 dot damage. Now, summon an imp and he gives you a 10% boost to immolate damage, so the same immolate will hit for 55-66 direct and 77 dot damage for as long as the imp is around. At a higher level you would be able to teach your pets improved versions of the spell boosting. As long as theyd each boost relevant and often used spells, it would be a cool feature and not result in everyone using the same pet all the time. Expanding on that, there could even be pet specific spells, spells you can only use if you have that pet in action. You could for example gain access to an instant cast health funnel type spell if you have voidwalker up, or gain a lifedrain proc on your weapon with succubus up. Good idea? bad? lets hear it. here is a well thought out response Blueberry (VW) could give a boost to Curse of Weakness (make the attack power boost it gives to the enemy smaller) and Recklessness, perhaps even allow you to cast both on the same target? As a different ability he might have a magic dampening effect, which would reduce the amount of 'threat' or aggro your spells cause. Suc could increase your shadowbolt damage, or allow you to invis a limited period through use of her spell. Theres endless possiblities for the abilities we could come up with, the question is if the idea as a whole is a good one and wheter Blizzard would be likely to implement something like this at all. Well, I'll keep on suggesting and hope some of it goes through, would be cool if it did. topic posted on BNet by Darakym. this would be a great thing to add in lue of pet talents. rather than figuring out a way to balance pet talents with our power, pets could simply gain the ability to amplify our own spells. |

Pets: spell boosting and special abilities
Ah what a wonderful and well thought out post! I do so enjoy the idea of pet's boosting existing abilites! Especially the idea of the voidwalker's ability to reduce aggro from our spells, say no more *nudge* *nudge* know what I mean? Know what I mean? Oy...too much python for one night...

one thing is that pets should not be allowed to do anything while you cast through them. i think you should be able to make the imp into a fire bomb. have him run into a group cast his version of hellfire. this should be expensive for warlock mana and imp health. that would hopefully prevent abuse. plus if you add a cooldown timer of 30-60 seconds and it should be a nice little thing to have. |

P.S. If you are wondering why I am quoting almost everything...I just don't feel like typing that much.

plus Fire Bomb sounds like an awesome shot. i'd base it after the Prarie Fire, half tabasco sauce, half tequila. youch! that's a devestating shot. a staple anytime i take someone out for their 21st b-day. |

Pets: spell boosting and special abilities
This would make warlocks summons analogous to familiars. Having this ability for one pet might be interesting, perhaps mages could have a familiar as well; but in most fantasy realms there is usually a negative trade-off for familiars (e.g. when said familiar is destroyed, the caster permanantly loses a stat, perhaps there could be some experience penalty or somesuch). |
