Warlock Noob Alert
Ok, I've been leveling a BE 'lock now for a while (upper 30s now) and wanted to throw a probably horribly noobish question out to you warlock masters.
I understand if this has been asked and answered a thousand times before, but I couldn't find a decent straight up answer so here it is again: What's the best spec for leveling? I've heard that for mana efficiency you'd most like want to go full Affliction with maybe up to five points in Demonic Embrace for that extra Stamina buff. Currently, this is my build. Now, I've also heard that once you reach 50 or so, it's worth it to respec Demo and get your Felguard for the rest of the climb to 70. Any suggestions? The Affliction build I've used thus far has been pretty damn good overall, ability to handle between three and five mobs at once is nice that's for sure (major improvement over my shadow priest), but the Felguard seems like so much fun (and looks cool to boot). Thanks in advance folks. |

Re: Warlock Noob Alert
I would say Demonology and a few points in Affliction, gives insane survivability. It's how I leveled my warlock

Re: Warlock Noob Alert
I leveled my lock from 1-55 as affliction. Most of the skills that a felguard needs to be an effective pet as opposed to...the voidwalker aren't trained until level mid 50s. But after that, felguard felguard felguard. It was extremely easy to grind in outland and survive for those pvp encounters as demonology with some talents in affliction as i leveled. It was the way i leveled and i would do it all over again the same way. recap: 1-55 affliction 55-70 demonology.

Re: Warlock Noob Alert
Call me a heathen if you must, but I have yet to play with the demo tree, aside from Demonic Embrace, and Improved Healthstone. I initially started with Destruction, (and a few points in affliction for instant corruption)and as much fun as it was, it eats up mana FAST. Destruction is more for front end damage (PVP basicly). Destructo-locks generate a high lbit of damage fast, but pay for it, in PVE due to high threat generated that your void can't hang with, and the rapid depletion of you mana pool. In PVP, I found that people start to realize you are destruction speced, and gang up on you after you have about 10 kills in the first few minutes. I finished out the tree, but leveling became a slower process the higher level I got, because I had to always stop and drink...so I re-speced to affliction at level 60, and I love it. The rest of my points have been re-dumped into Destruction...ESPECIALLY Improved Shadowbolt and Bane. Our guild is gearing up for Kara raids soon, and I am thinking about fine tuning for a bit more dps, although mine as it stands still hits #1 on the meter when we hit the dungeons (Slabs, Mech, Arc ect). Eventually I will play more with Demo, but as it stands, for me its Affliction to level, go down the tree to UA, bypassing a few lesser talents (Improved CoW, and Shadow Embrace come to mind...sorry, but I never use CoW, and SE is damn near pointless, when I can use the points for something more beneficial), during leveling you should eventually pick up AT LEAST Improved SB, and Bane (for those fun SB Spams)...after you get UA in the affliction tree, to round stuff out pick up Demonic Embrace and Improved Healthstone if you want, and proceed in Destroction. After you hit 70 re-spec as you see fit. Confusing as it sounds, I hope it helps. RECAP: Affliction first, cap off with Destruction, picking up Improved SB and Bane along the way |

Re: Warlock Noob Alert
Would just like to ask, how is Shadow embrace "damn near pointless"? 1 warlock in each raid should have 5/5 shadow embrace, your saying that 5% less damage from a raid boss is "pointless"?. not including the extra effect from drain life with the correct talents. If your just entering Karazhan then i suggest someone has Shadow Embrace, it is likely your tanks wont be geared for the place and they will need all the help they can get.

Re: Warlock Noob Alert
The best spec is the spec you think is the best, simple as that... Everything is driven by personal opinion and playing style, so the "best" spec for me can be the worst crap build for you... Any build will do as long as you kill the mobs before they kill you... Even without talents you can level perfectly.... If you feel like affiction, go ahead, if you like destruction... why not? All build have pro's and con's, so basicly there is not that much difference. Personaly I leveled destruction upto level 59 and specced affliction when I hit 60. Played all variations and builds... in the end there is not to much difference.. |

Re: Warlock Noob Alert
It's just personal opinion, but I understand where you'r coming from...I think my whole thing ATM is maxing my DPS, without draining my mana mid fight, so it was an acceptable loss for me. I actually have it right now, but I am thinking of losing it when I tweak my specs. Its all a matter of opinion I guess. And I think its only on physical damage. Re: Warlock Noob Alert
I went demo til 50 and then switched to a build that allowed me to sac my felpuppy for mana regen and grind away drain tanking. I am now level 65 and I am still using the same build. I have improved VW incase I run into something thats too difficult for me to handle without a pet, which hasn't been more than a few times. I get called a n00b A lot by people for not "using" my pet, but I could careless. I end most fights at 90% health and mana even when I take multiples. While they are sitting there drinking/eating/bandaging I am continuing to grind away with no need to slow down. |

Re: Warlock Noob Alert
Doh!!!! well I just learned something new. I was abusing Shadow Embrace for the Extra Drain life and nothing else. Hmm 5% less Physical Damage from Illidan. Now I need to figure how to Respec.
