Seed of Corruption on single mobs?
Got into an argument with a mage the other day regarding Seed of Corruption. He said it did absolutely nothing on single mobs. However, when I read the notes on the spell, it looks like it does more damage than the standard Corruption spell. Yes I'm aware that the true benefit of the spell is the shadow damage it causes to nearby mobs when it "detonates". However, I'm interested on what the rest of you locks think on this topic and how do you use the Seed of Corruption spell. thanks |

Not worth it on single mobs, as it detonates after 1044 shadow damage is taken (meaning it won't last for all its ticks if you apply other dots or have +spell damage), and it's much more mana-costly. |

it's 1044 damage.......... from any source..... which means you could literally be spamming SoC.... which certainly doesn't make sense on a single target |

on all mobs it will detonate when the target takes 1044 total damage or dies. even if you just cast SoC on the mob it would still explode after 1044 damage. destro corruption (arguably the weakest version of regular corruption) with > 300 spl damage will still do more than 1044 damage, so i would not replace corruption with seed of corruption on single mobs unless i had an urge to make repeated corpse runs and spend exorbitant sums of gold on repairs my personal guidelines for soc spam: 1. only cast with prot pallies. yea i know warriors and druids have aoe taunts, but these are on cooldown and not as good at holding aggro on multiple mobs as consecration + righteous fuy (imo). 2. wait until the 2nd consecrate to start aoe. you can let loose on the first one if you're daring/tank is well geared, but it's always safer if you wait til the 2nd, esp if your detonations get a lot of crits. 3. even with controlled casting of soc, things will still go wrong. be prepared to dc/ihot/vw sac should you get aggro. failing that, start running back. 4. enjoy #1 on the damage meters |

VERY Costly on mana... NOT better than Corruption on 3 or less mobs. I only use SoC on groups of 4 or more, and like was said in the previous, only with a Prot Pally... SoC = #1 on damage in any dungeon with these circumstances (I averaged over 4,000 DPS in Hyjal due to SoC after a FULL night of raiding (4 hours))... SoC is the #1 AOE in the game atm.. and highly effective on 4 or more mobs. |

Generally casting it on one mob alone is a waste of mana. The only exception is during pvp because there could always be a rogue sneaking around and the explosion will bring him out of stealth mode.

From the mage standpoint, his spells do >1044 damage almost immediately on a single target (like a boss). So with a mage your SoC immediately expires and does AoE damage to nothing, so it's a total waste. It is amazing on groups of mobs with a tank to hold aggro for a few seconds, or AV stalemates with players piled up on top of each other. |
