Talent Build threads - STOP!!! You're not asking anything original!!

Ok, enough is enough. This far into the game there is NO new original builds being put out for those to see. If you're asking if a certain build will work for you, chances are ten people have already asked the same thing. If you want to know what build you should take for raiding, pvp, arenas, instances, leveling, soloing or playing solitaire why you afk - chances are it's been discussed before.

ENOUGH!!

If you are about to post a thread for your talent build, STOP!! Read through the 3000 plus threads already in this section!

If you are a regular here and you see new threads being started, DON'T ANSWER THEM!!!

Enough is enough!! No more talent build threads! Take it to the official forums from now on!

Re: Talent Build threads - STOP!!! You're not asking anything original!!

BTW, this is only a temporary thing. As it was pointed out to me, with the new expansion gets closer and confirmed new talents are given... naturally people will want to ask for advice, discuss layouts etc.

This was put in place because nearly every day currently, someone new registers, comes straight into this section and asks about their build. People aren't taking the time to look through existing posts.

Now, is this just a ban on the classic tree post? (0/21/40 or 0/40/21)

Or are you also banning ones that deal with people in specific sitations? (such as "How should I progress given x)

I for one would be happy to see the tree posts gone, but you can't always find another warlock with the exact same stats to model your progression off of.

Re: Talent Build threads - STOP!!! You're not asking anything original!!

These are the types of threads I am mainly talking about. Threads that ask for a build to be critiqued, threads asking "is this build ok?" etc. No more of those. 1) because they are done to death, and 2) because some people (not all) can't seem to think for themselves. Instead of using the search feature and reading, they just want someone to tell them. Or, they use the search feature but can't find their exact question so post a new thread. This forum is about learning, not someone telling you what to do.

Threads will be judged on a post by post basis. For example a thread saying something along the lines of "I am wanting to do "x", but I am a little unsure on "y". This "link" thread says blah blah blah, but then this "link" thread gets me confused by saying blah blah blah. Something that shows you've tried to find the answer yourself.

And of course, if you use the search feature, find a thread that almost matches your question but is a little off... add a reply to that thread stating you are similar, but this is your exact question. That way we have less individual threads all asking the same question, and more threads asking things based around the same starting point.

Re: Talent Build threads - STOP!!! You're not asking anything original!!

To be honest, "progression" builds have been covered extensively because they're so heavily linked with the availability of gear options at different tier content. Yes of course, there will be more people having more build options as 2.4 hits and more badge loot arrives to fill out gear slots but every single viable build has been exhaustively discussed.

Note the keyword - viable. There are of course any number of misfit/hybrids that players attempt to come up with but the simple fact of the matter is that the "cookie cutter" builds are commonly used as reference points because they have been proven time and again to be effective and while a few filler points in most are debateable, the key talents for affliction, destrucion or demonology and their particular gearing requirements aren't.

Are the rules of thumb flexible? (1200dmg, 25% crit, 202 hit for 21/40 for example) - yes of course, but there's not a great deal of flexibility and even a cursory glance over the vast amount of information here should yield enough information for people to make informed decisions.

Finally....it seems that increasingly people are wanting to be spoon-fed information without having to make the effort of either using the search function or browsing the threads and as a moderator on a couple of other forums that have been running into this problem lately it takes a great deal of effort for me to even reply to these lazy posters with a link to the appropriate information.

The Warlocks Den is a fantastic source of information - take the time to look it over and you'll be pleasantly suprised how much you can learn

Edit: Akasha beat me to it without sounding as ranty ^^

I completely agree! When I first found the Den, I felt very noobish and proceeded to pretty much take three full days off of actually playing WoW and learning more about my class here. I've searched through threads months old and still found adequate info for me to decide on what to do. Really, there is no need to start new threads anymore, as Akasha said, you should be able to find an existing thread and "revive" it to address a more specific question about the general thread topic...

I couldn't find the search button my first few days here. It wasn't until I junked the ads and found it that I stopped being a complete noob and turned into to the nib I am today.

Make the search button bigger FTW.

For some reason the net has developed an irrational psychotic hatred for "forum necromancy". Yeah I get it for old irrelevant dead topics but some "other" sites I visit give warnings and temp bans for almost exactly what Akasha has suggested. Just make sure we don't fall prey to the same mentality
