One thing that I noticed, the talent reads that damage is increased 100% @ your crit rate. This doesn't sound like the same mechanism as Crit. Therefore, the extra damage would not get reduced by resilience.

Am I onto something?

Re: upcoming change: New affliction dot

I noticed something nasty... Blizz greatly nerf UA!

Current Rank 3: Unstable Affliction - Spell - World of Warcraft
Quote:
Shadow energy slowly destroys the target, causing 1050 damage over 18 sec. In addition, if the Unstable Affliction is dispelled it will cause 1575 damage to the dispeller and silence them for 5 sec.
Beta Rank 3: Unstable Affliction - Spell - World of Warcraft
Quote:
Shadow energy slowly destroys the target, causing 875 damage over 15 sec. In addition, if the Unstable Affliction is dispelled it will cause 1575 damage to the dispeller and silence them for 3 sec.
It lasts 3 seconds less taking it out of line with Corruption for a nice lasting time synergy. They also lessened the damage by 175 base...

The level 80 version of the spell is just barely better than the current live version...

Unless they plan to make it an instant cast, this is a ugly nerf because all it does is lessen the overall damage. The damage per tick still remains the same. (Roughly 58.3 at 70 with no gear)

I don't think it's anything to worry about. By adding crit scaling, the base damage had to be decreased, that was necessary. Although I am also upset at the reduced duration due to the reasons you noted.

Also the silence effect was nerfed in a much earlier build, which I think is also there to balance the affliction tree in general.

Everylasting affliction alreay took it out of line with Corruption.

If you notice, you can take the old version and divide by 6 (numbe of ticks) and you get 175. They simply reduced total damage based of the duration change. I dont really understand why they felt the need to drop it in duration, this also removes 5% from Everlasting affliction since we lose a tick.

What this does do is lower the DPCT of UA by about 17% which is a suck nuts nerf especially if they didnt adjust mana cost of the spell to account for having to recast it more often, but yes it is probably teh beginig of them balancing the damage around the very high crit rates. PAndemic is a very powerful talent, I assume major balkanc ing around it will have to happen. Especially with teh way they slopply added dot scaling into afflicing with like 5 "increases dot damage by x factor"
