Creating a Haunt/Ruin and Affliction/Ruin builds in WotLK
Since the Affliction tree is so bloated, creating a beginner's 80 Haunt/Ruin build is particularly challenging. How are you doing it? Here's my try: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft Notes: --Suppression is still there because I presume the lock isn't hit capped. --Only one point in Fel Concentration due to the changes to spell pushback. --No Nightfall because I presume an 80 lock has Glyph of Corruption instead. --I chose Death's Embrace over Eradication because it provides additional shadow damage for the DoTs when they are needed. --Imp. Felhunter was included because the spirit boost is translated by Fel Armor into a nice increase in spell damage. |

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft - No range talent sucks, but it's not a DPS loss - I assume Nightfall will stack with the glyph - Malediction is a 3% spell damage increase - Amp Curse vs Fel Conc is kind of a tossup, probably doesn't matter |

I might pull my range talents too. Someone quoted Ghostcrawler (Blizz dev) as saying that raids aren't going to be "a threat race" so you might not need to reduce threat by being far away. |

Reports from people who've been running Naxx are that tank threat is very, very good right now. |

I'ld like to test this one : Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft - earth and moon seems a better choice than coe - having my SH at same value for dots and bolts - ignoring threat and distance issues |

Be aware that ruin DO NOT affect Haunt.

dunno what Wrath encounters are like Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft if there's no heavy AoE requiring us to be miles away, then grim rich / destructive reach isn't needed. since shadow bolts are still a fair chunk of our dps i evened out the +hit from talents if threat isn't an issue... moddifying tizzy's build by 1 point Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft it's a shame it's so hard to get past the initial part of the affliction tree. while the end part is so bloated and full of "decent" if not "must have" talents |

re: Creating a Haunt/Ruin and Affliction/Ruin builds in WotLK
All the specs posted so far have an identity crisis. You all have a pvp and pve mishmash. To the first poster: I assume you're going for a raiding spec, since you took suppression. Imp Felhunter, Imp HoT, Imp Lifetap, Imp Drain Soul, and Soul Siphon are useless. 10 wasted points. And you're skipping eradication and malediction, which is also bad. Death's Embrace is worse than both of those for personal dps and raid dps. 2nd poster: Like the OP said, Nightfall will be unnecessary with the Glyph of Corruption. Additionally, you waste a lot of the same points the OP did. The pushback resistance on the destro side is very worthwhile, as it's a good dps increase in any fight where you're getting attacked. Don't overlook it. It's less important on the affliction side. 3rd poster: 2/5 Imp SB is a big no-no. 5/5 is mandatory. 4th poster: basically the same problems as all the rest. I'd do something like this pending some more concrete math: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft 4/5 Shadow embrace since it only increases DPS by 1% of half your damage, ie 0.5%. |

Soul Siphon isn't useless, Drain Soul does 4x damage when the target is below 20%, and Soul Siphon buffs Drain Soul. Imp Felhunter is required if you want to Dark Pact from him. Having a Felhunter DPS is better than using an Imp to Dark Pact from because the Felhunter can actually deal damage while he regens mana, the Imp has to sit there. Imp Life Tap is not useless, getting more mana from Life Tap means you have to Life Tap less frequently, which means you spend more time DPSing. Nightfall being necessary or not depends on whether it stacks with the glyph. Shadow Embrace stacks twice, so it's 2% to DoTs per point, not 1%.
