3.0.2 Farming like a Frost Mage
Anybody from the PTR who have done it? Agro 20 mobs - Shadowfury - seed 1 - seed 2 - seed 3 - repeat. or Agro 20 mobs - Shadowfury - howl of terror - seed 1 - seed 2 - seed 3 - repeat. Just wondering how feasible is it..... Last edited by eshadowone; October 08, 2008 at 12:37 PM.. |

Re: 3.0.2 Farming like a Frost Mage
Variant 1: How can you cast 3 seeds during one Shadowfury? Variant 2: Can work, but sometimes they are too far away from each other to actually trigger the other's seed. I also do not see a good mana return with this approach. I still feel that people who AoE grind *feel* faster because they kill in shorter amount of time not taking downtime in account. And, yes: Walking time, too. |

I think affliction would always be the best way for farming. You stop for breaks less then other specs. No major spells just dots |

dot, dot, dot (make sure SiLi is in there), HoT, drain life the remainder. Dark Pact, life tap. Rinse. Repeat. It has always been thus. |

Re: 3.0.2 Farming like a Frost Mage
You can actually do this in live...but not the way you described it. Premise one: They must not be high health mobs. If they have 9k health, you will need like 6-7 seeds to kill them all. Not very feasible. Something like 5k health is more likely. Premise two: SoC is very mana intensive. Sure, you can kill a lot quickly..but you will also be oom... I don't think it is necessarily faster than affliction dot dot dot, fear, drain ,next. Step 1) Send in your VW to a first mob. Select a second mob Step 2) Make sure you have a Torment landed on the first mob, then have your VW go for the second mob. Select a third mob. Step 3) Make sure you have a Torment landed on the second mob, then have your VW go for the third mob. Select a forth mob etc etc. This is so that each mob should have eaten at least one torment, or else they might come for you instead of staying on him. You can pretty much do this to 6-7 mobs, and they will be chasing the VW. Start to seed a mob, tab, seed another mob. This is also where you hit the AOE taunt Suffering. Once you have a few seeds up, or when the first one is blowing up, you shadowfury them. You should stand quite near the VW so in the event that they go for you, the exploding seeds will still hit them.

This might work in live, unfortunately the mobs in beta have around 9k hp and upwards in northrend (or at least they had that when i started lvling there a few months back) |

Actually, it doesn't even work on Live. Only if you farm lower health mobs. You can farm lower mobs quickly with it. Not meant to farm equal level mobs. The same would be true for Wrath of the Lich King.

Re: 3.0.2 Farming like a Frost Mage
Frost mages can kite multiple mobs better than we can. They also have Frost nova and blink. Use SL, tap and never stop running let alone drinking... |

Re: 3.0.2 Farming like a Frost Mage
I farm quite efficiently as 21/40 shadow spec with the voidwalker, with no down time. The method is quite simple. Collect the mobs with the VW, keeping an eye on his life and using Health Funnel whenever you need to. The rotation would be something like Agony, Corruption then Seed once you have the desired amount of mobs collected. Also the Tier5 2 set bonus helps greatly when I'm farming this way as it causes the VW to be healed for 15% of the damage I deal to the mobs. Once you've completed that group, your VW should have 100% hp and you can continue to the next group of mobs and start the whole thing again. You can drink while the VW is collecting the mobs so drinking really doesnt slow you down at all. I have cleared pre-bc instances using this method. |
