Re: Affliction Rotations - post patch

Tonight in Kara I tried haunt for the first time. My rotation on trash was. UA, Haunt, corruption, SB spam. Or DoT second mob. On bosses it was. UA, Corruption, CoE, (Or Curse of Agony or CoD) SL haunt. I had top dps by a large margin. I wear most merc glad and some kara gear. I was dpsing better than the T5/T6 rogue

Re: Affliction Rotations - post patch

In my case @ T5/badge gear,i was able to push out 1.3k+ DPS,without actualy useing SB,this was on target dummy.

The only hard part is that i dont have any rotation, because i cant maintain one.

I start with: Haunt > UA > Immo > Curse of Agony > SL > Corr > DL.
And i end up,by just refreshing the dots, and i berly have any time to drain inbetwen replaceing the dots.
tbh i dont seem to find SB usage betwen rotations so good anymore.

Re: Affliction Rotations - post patch

i'm 56/0/5, and my rotation is like:

Trinket > Destro Potion > Immo > Haunt > UA > Corr > Curse of Agony (CoD) > SL > SB > SB

Re: Affliction Rotations - post patch

I use two rotations, one for trash and one for a boss.

Trash rot: SB > Haunt > Corr > UA > SB spam. Most trash doesn't last through refreshing.

Boss rot: SB > Haunt > Corr > UA > SiLi > Immo > Curse of Agony > SB until Haunt refresh. It's challenging to keep it all up and active, but on our Hyjal run the other night I maxed out at 1512 dps on Rage with it. I've heard people say that SiLi and Immo will lower dps but I'm not sure I see it. Keeping them all properly refreshed will allow 2-3 Shadowbolts before recasting.

Seems to work for me in mostly T5 equivalent gear.

Re: Affliction Rotations - post patch

There's no real rotation for affliction, there has never been and now with haunt I really doubt there ever will be. The basic idea is "fake it 'till you make it", meaning if you have all of your shadow dots up, haunt up, and are tapping/shadowbolting, you're doing it right. Try to refresh dots right after they fall off, but don't stand around to make sure it happens.

Example: 1 second until Curse of Agony wears off. You have time for a shadow-bolt, and it's better to refresh Curse of Agony 1.5 seconds late than to sit around doing nothing for that 1 second.

Re: Affliction Rotations - post patch

I just got done doing some tests on Dr. Boom and here's what I found...

Just shy of +1200 SD, 20% crit, 56/0/5 spec. I pulled just shy of 1500 dps by using COE -> Haunt -> Corr -> UA -> Immo -> SB. I tried using SiLi in there too, but it didn't add any DPS. If anything it lowered my DPS a little. The real trick is to keep everything up all the time, but to also get as many SBs in there as possible. Even if it means missing a UA or Immo refresh by 1/2 second or so. But you must at all times keep Haunt up.

I could've added a couple hundred DPS by switching to Curse of Agony, but I'm the CoE lock in my raids, so I just worked with that.

Re: Affliction Rotations - post patch

i admit casting haunt first is a bit iffy but on paper you'll lose dot ticks anyway if you it early or too late. i'll try doing something like CoE => UA / Cor => haunt

3.0.3 lowering CD on haunt should make life better tho

and yea i agree there's no real rotation on affliction playstyle... i guess this is more the initial opening we're discussing since everything ends at different intervals

Quote:
My question is- When haunt returns to you, does it give you back the initial damage of the dot that is part of Haunt, or does it give back to you that amount PLUS the 20% damage it did?
haunt returns 100% of it's direct damage to you as healing. so if you landed a haunt for 1000dmg then when it ends it will heal 1000

new rotation for heavy demon builds?

OK I am running a heavy demon build spec. 0/53/8 (molton core and bane in destro) .

My sbolts used to be 4-5k now they are down to 1/2 that amount. With all my buffs procing I am getting over 1800 spell damage. that @ hit cap and 127 haste..

So obviously sbolts have been nerfed big time. I NEED a new viable spell rotation. Despite the procs, Im not really putting out much more damage than I was before the patch..
I was doing CoE, Corruption, SBolt SBolt SBolt SBolt SBolt SBolt but those days are gone.

Can you Please Please suggest a new rotation that will work with demon heavy builds.

Re: new rotation for heavy demon builds?

If you're putting points in Molten Core, you'll probably want to stick to fire spells first and foremost while using Curse of Agony and Corruption for procs. The only time it really makes sense to throw in SB is if you have an instant cast from Glyph of Corruption.

Your regular rotation would probably amount to:
Curse of Agony, Corruption, Immolate, Incinerate, Incinerate, Incinerate, etc.

For what its worth my single target dps has dropped from around 1400 to 1300 after going from 0/21/40 pre-patch to 0/56/5 post-patch. There's really no way around it that I can see.

Re: new rotation for heavy demon builds?

i hated the "waiting for the paint to dry feel of shadowbolt spam. it made me feel like there should be more that what i did.

why not drop al eight points of destruction, and put them into affliction? Corruption and Curse of Agony improved mean more dps. let a boomkin increase spell damage for the raid while impreoved Curse of Agony works it's magic. it is much more powerful than CoE.

without bane your sb spam is going to be slower. why not oil your weapon with a spellstone? (fire an spellstones are awesom now. make sure you have talents in themm) more haste, supes DoTs even more
