Keeping up all dots last night in Kara I definitely still used plenty of shadowbolts. I am 56/0/5 with the 5 in bane.

I'm starting to think that Bane is worth the 5 pts.

However, when I get the higher level Drain Soul, I'll pretty much be using that instead of Shadow Bolt for targets at 25% or lower.

This.

Right... I guess I'll be spec'ing back into Bane.

Bane is worth it, ISB isn't (even for giggles as affliction).

After being a little ... I'll use the word "unhappy" with the results of my 0/46/15 build, I tried the 0/40/21 Succubus build with similar "unhappy" results. Two words of explanation: RNG sucks!

Decided to give Affliction another go yesterday. I leveled affliction and stayed affliction through t4 content and some t5 content until I was hit capped. When I tried Affliction on the PTR (before 3.0.2 went live), it seemed a bit "much" with the whole micro-second timing to maximize DPS.

But anyway, I decided to give Affliction another go yesterday, with a different mindset. I must say I'm quite impressed. Dailies are quite a breeze... cast all your dots, life tap and kinda just wait 3-4 seconds for the target to drop dead.

One thing that I liked when I was doing controlled tests (Target Dummy): The fact that RNG doesn't really come into how well you actually perform in a fight. Previous tests of both Demo builds would wield a flat disappointing 1000dps, while other times (when my crit was actually counting for something), I was hitting 1300-1400dps self-buffed (Fel Armor + Firestone). These tests would be rather short... at 2.3second Shadow Bolts, I'd go OOM in about 20 casts (using SB Glyph).

So, my controlled tests as affliction: A constant average of 1322.7dps over 6 minutes (Fel Armor + Spellstone). I could've gone longer, but I got a little bit bored, since I guessed... well... since I've just loaded 476k of damage onto this dummy, I guess theoretically it would be dead by now. I'm sure results will vary widely in uncontrolled environments, when you actually have to move and run around (thinks particularly of phase 2 Supremus).

But yes, now that the whole backstory is down, back on topic: I found I was casting Shadow Bolts a lot more than I thought I would be. With my current haste (also using Spellstone), I was casting Shadow Bolts nearish the 2.2 second mark, dropping around 1.9 second when Erradication procced (DoT's/GCD of Erradication: 1.1 second) - based off Quartz.

Anyhow, long story short: I'd go as far to say "an affliction build is not complete without 5/5 Bane". Blizzard did a wonderful thing for both Fire locks and Affliction locks by moving Bane down to Tier 1 Destro... they did it for a reason

I'll leave you with a passing thought:
"Throw more DoTs, more DoTs, more DoTs, MORE DoTs, ok STOP DoTs"

I'm switching back to a 56/0/5 build... I just can't decide where to put my last 2 points yet:

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

ISB is out, Bane is in.

Re: No use for ISB or Bane with Heavy Affliction?

I put mine in Grim Reach. I also only have one point in Improved Drain Soul, and only one point in Shadow Embrace, leaving enough to get Curse of Exhaustion and Deaths Embrace.

But yep, Bye Bye to ISB. Holding on to Bane for sure.

Why would you only have one point in Shadow Embrace?

Because I don't have my talent points finely tuned yet :P

It'll be a bit easier at 80, i'll be heading for a haunt/ruin build
