Where's My Crit, My Damage???
First off, at level 73 my critical strike was 25%, my hit is 162 and my spell damage is 1290...The only gear change I have made since getting to Northend was replacing Icon of the Silver Cresent with the quest reward trinket Mendicant's Charm (essentially +53 Spell Damage vs. +44 Spell Damage). So, last night, my typical normal cast on a trash mob at 73 is 1930+ on incinerate, 1000+ on immolate, chaos bolt 2000+...etc...etc..So, BAM, I hit level 74, and I know there is a new level to Incinerate coming..woohoo, and OMG, I get to go to Dalaran, I run off like a troubled kid escaping from the cops, get to Dalaran, get my new bear mount, go to the trainer, yippie, new spell upgrades, and rush back to dragonblight to test my new level out...Here is where I am so lost I can't even begin to explain or understand. I hit a trash mob, Immolate 500, incinerate 1000, incinerate 1090, incinerate 890, conflag 510...im thinking, what the??? so i look, maybe i got my riding crop on or something by mistake? Nope, not there. Ok, Fel Armor? Yep, its active, Fel-Fire Stone? Yep, its applied! Checked it twice because I new there was a new one at level 74. So what is going on??? I look at my spell damage, its the same, I look at hit, its 162 just like it was, but wait, whats this, my crit is now 18%??? What? Where? What is going on? How do I lose 7% crit from training? How does my spell damage on trash get cut in half from training? I don't understand? Was there a patch? Did we get nerfed? I checked 5 times over all my equipment, my buffs, everything, and I can't see what changed. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Right now I am very frustrated. Has anyone else noticed this? BTW, I posted this here because I wasn't sure if it fell into Wrath of the Lich King discussion based on it being related to the leveling or if it was deemed a talent/spells topic due to the damage/critical strike portion. Welcome to leveling. Lets simply talk raw numbers, no buffs/talents/ Spell Hit @ 70 you need 12.6 for 1% hit. Spell Hit @ 80 you need 26.2 for 1% hit. Spell Critical Strike @ 70 you need 22.0 for 1% crit. Spell Critical Strike @ 80 you need 45.9 for 1% crit. Spell Haste @ 70 you need 15.7 for 1% haste Spell Haste @ 80 you need 32.7 for 1% haste Resilience @ 70 you need 39.4 for 1% resilience. Resilience @ 80 you need 81.9 for 1% resilience. It goes up a little every level. I'm 75. My hit rating was 219 at 70, enough to be over 17% to hit. I'm now down to approx 13% to hit. Same thing happened from 60 - 70, but the rating system was new then, so it wasn't as noticeable. |

As you level, you need more rating per %. Whether it be hit, haste, or crit. So what you see happening isn't anything to be shocked by: Your gear gets progressively worse as you level. It's the natural progression of things. In essence, the numbers on the gear may be higher (like Chilly Slobberknocker - Item - World of Warcraft) but it really isn't as good as you thought it was, because, other than spell power, everything else scales worse. I also want to add that I'm in before anybody else suggesting Demo and Affliction builds, just like in BC, are going to scale immeasurably better than any destruction build no matter what gear you are in right now. Something like this: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft With a Succubus out will scale far better than any deep build of either other tree as DK (just like entering Kara) gives you spell power based on stats. A deep affliction build will probably have second least amount of diminishing returns as you are less dependent on Crit or Haste to do anything other than make your rotation more manageable. In any event, don't fret, there's very nice rep and quest rewards out there to get you into shiny Purple Heroics, the badge gear, and Naxx 10, which isn't hard at all. *** Information added 0 Minutes and 32 Seconds later... *** Quote:

Im in Affliction and so far (Im only at 72) Ive gained 100dps per level. Of course I started Wrath in nothing more than Scourge Epics and nub greens (I hit 70 just 3 days b4 x-pac) but it seems to scale well with the upgraded greens they are giving. Hope this helps  Lasher |

Hmm just noticed this on Elricc. My +damage has risen but my crit has dropped to somewhere around 9%. I didn't notice it on Xtcee as she was in greens & blues at the xpac but Elricc was in all epics (mostly merc. glad. gear + raid epics that i had not got to replace as they were at least as good as merc. glad. apart from resilliance) I knew i would not be replacing much/anything on him before 78 but this is damn poor. Its also something that sort of creaps up on you if you don't know its going to happen! BTW it shows the search function does work before starting a new post. Next question is what do I do about it?
