I need help with my DPS - Thread #1
Since there are a lot of 'I need help with DPS' threads being created lately, I'm going to make one generic thread that all general DPS questions can be posted to. For more specific questions, you're own thread is no problem. But a lot of them are based around the "I've got no idea what's wrong with my DPS, please help" type questions, which really, we don't need a new thread each time. So, if you need help with your DPS, aren't sure why you're not doing as much as you'd like, then please post a reply to this thread. Hopefully, with all the questions and answers consolidated to once place, you might all be able to help each other. I need help with my DPS - Thread #1
I don't know what is going on but no matter what I do I just can't pull off decent numbers. Look at my gear (profile on the side) and telling me how much DPS I should be pulling on the meters. I was sitting at 1600-1800 as Affliction but the rotation was tedious so I wanted to try Destruction but now I'm only sitting on 1500. My rotation for Destruction is: Chaos bolt > Corruption > Curse of Agony > Immolate > Incinerate then just refreshing dots as they need it and spamming Incinerate between Chaosbolt cooldowns. Is it my gear? I know my crit is a little low but I didn't think it was that bad considering the people I'm raiding with have been doing just as much yet some of them (hunters and boomkins >.>) are getting close to 3k! I'm doing everything I can, I'm having a bit of trouble getting crit and hit gear as everything is back loaded with full on haste. I'm using the stones but neither seem to make a difference. Working on the badge crit trinket and the wrists from H VH. I've never really worried too much about my DPS but it just feels like I'm doing absolutely horrible and cause of it I'm constantly messing up and dying cause of stupid mistakes. It's honestly depressing :( |

I think the problem lies with the build, and the build will dictate the rotation. You've taken some odd talents for a raid build, like backlash and shadowfury which are PvP orientated. I'm tempted to relocate this due to it being essentially a build related issue, but it's also pertaining to the amount of crit you need to make destro work and finally you're after rotation advice. Consider speccing meta / ruin until your crit rating is improved by 10 or so percent. You'd be running with FG most of the time but if you wanted to run with an imp with MD you'd be getting an extra 15% fire crit from this build when you're in a felguard unfriendly fight. Rotation could be Curse of Agony, Corruption, Meta [trinket], Immolate, Incinerate spam / life tap until your periodic damage needs refreshing. Alternatively spec FG / Devastation. Either way you're getting a boost to your crit with talents rather than gear.

I agree your crit is a tad low, but i don't think that is stopping you from doing good destro dps. On a first glance, i would say your haste is low. Are you going oom and having to life tap early in fights? I'm asking because your int might be low as well. This would help with crit as well. The int is most likely due to level 70 items which don't have good int for level 80. Because of your stats i would go with a destro build that is heavy on your imp. This would take some pressure off of your individual gear. Check out my armory to see the build i'm using. It is the cookie cutter 0/20/51 build and it has been working out pretty well. My rotation on bosses is usually something like: send pet, immolate, corruption, Curse of Agony, conflag, immolate, chaos bolt, incinerate x w/e based on haste, repeat. I've been doing between 1800 and 3100 dps depending on the boss and whether my imp dies or not. Currently my imp does about 15-17% of my damage. Hope this helps some. |

Feel free to move it, I figured this was the most appropriate place. I'm not having too much mana issues, I was experimenting with Felguard+Ruin before I knew about 0/41/30 but found on certain fights he'd glitch out. Backlash is for the crit, Shadowfury is for soloing seem as how I'm a bit lacking in dots (I've actually found it useful). Another thing I'm confused about is firstly I misread about Backdraft which may raise my DPS a bit (Thought it had a chance to proc from Immolate). But I've heard a lot of people say Conflagrate is not that good DPS. I've also heard Fire and Brimstone is a terrible talent hence I've opted out of it. |

Just so we keep things clear, Fire and Brimstone is a bad talent for one reason alone: position in the talent tree (next to last tier). If it were placed on the earlier tiers, it would be great (but ofc that's not possible cose half of it is related to conflagrate that is also pretty low in the talent tree). On the other hand, i have it for one reason: i have no other place to spend 5 talent points to increase my dps more than with F&B. 5/5 in improved corruption does nothing for me, while getting soul link + 4/5 Unholy Power might help a bit, but since i'm heavily relying on conflagrate in my rotation, i need F&B to make the spell viable and worthy of using. As for your questions, the dps your outputing, is it on trash, boss fights (static or mobile) or dummies? Cose the difference may be huge. |

Hello and DPS question
Hi, I'm very new here (this is my first post actually) but I've been reading from time to time since the time I created this char. I have found very helpful posts and guide here and I'm glad there's a place that all warlocks can discuss class mechanics etc. OK, here's my question/problem. Our newly formed guild has started making Naxx (10) runs and we're doing great. I have no problem getting to the top of the damage meters in damage done or DPS. That's the same in heroics as well, I generally finish first. I have made 25 man archavon and naxx and then I saw a problem. I'm doing too low DPS compared to other people. I do around 2.4k DPS whereas other people manage to pull off 3.7-4k DPS. I have checked their armory links and all but still can't find the problem. Perhaps it's my hit rating or problems managing DoT uptime but I can't seem to improve on 2.4k mark. My spell rotation initially is SB->Haunt->UA->Immolate->Agony->Corruption->SL Then I begin to fill with SB and Life taps until a DoT needs refreshing. I have not yet begun doing WWS reports but will definitely do so very soon. Here's my armory link The World of Warcraft Armory I have seen mages doing 6.5k (!) DPS on patchwerk in 25 Naxx and there were locks doing 5.7k in the same fight. I understand that in a 25 man environment there will be a lot more boost to the damage of a lock but heck I've seen locks do 3.7k on patchwerk 10. I know this must be asked a lot and people probably are tired of seeing this kinda threads but I have been reading and watching videos and still can't improve to the 3.5k mark. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

On boss fights I'm struggling to get 2k, the thing is the difference between me and the person above me is huge and the people below me not so much. However I'm unsure of my total damage. As affliction on the dummies I was getting 1700, as Destruction I'm getting barely 1500 so I'm tempted to go back to Felguard but this time as 0/41/30 if somebody can give me some insight to how this works. |

Looks like i have dps problem too
I just can't hit 3k dps. 2.5 max, while moonkin and rogue in 10ppl raid do 3k+ dps. As far as i know, warlock should dps better then them, so can anyone point me to my mistakes... build 0/41/30 armory here 1453 sp (w/o fel armor) (buffed about 2k) 383 hit 20% crit typical rotation on bosses: send FG, Dem. Emp., pop trink, Curse of Agony, Immo, Corr, incinerate spam + SB on nightfall procs |

the only thing i have to say is that the actually DPS number that you get is NOT important. Its the damage you do thorughout the fight. Mage standard rotation is Scorchx2, than frostfire bolt till the target is dead. Suppose the mage scorched twice, did 2 frostfires and got 4k dps. The mage than got stunned for 30 seconds and the fight is over (purely theoretical). At the end of everythign the mage still got 4k dps Not gona crunch any number her BUT if that mage had a single dot up, his dps would be increadibly low. The idea is pretty obvious and ofcourse its been exaggerated. This may be the kind of problem you're having. What kind of acutal damage are you doing? Perhaps your not going as bad as you think in raids |
