I've been giving this some thought as of late and trying as I'm sure many of you are to figure out the best way to keep your dots up and not clip them early. My thought was to allow Dot Duration to stack. This would not stack the damage, but instead the timers so no clipping would occur. Basically what would happen is when you apply a dot for the second time the new dot would not start till the old one ended its run. I think this would clear up almost all the Issues were having with such a hard to maintain rotation. What do you guys think? Could something like this work? Lasher |

Re: Dot Rotation Fix?
I suspect that this would make the rotation far too easy. It would be fairly easy to get 100% DoT uptime and the skill would be taken out of it. I prefer the idea of blizzard slightly changing the running times of DoTs so that certain ones can be refreshed together - much like Unstable Affliction and Immolate can be now. |

Re: Dot Rotation Fix?
it would increase dot uptime for sure vut it would not simplyfy rotation at all, actually it would make it even messier as you would have to whatch not only if your dot is up but additionally how many applycations there are |

Re: Dot Rotation Fix?
This can be made manageable by not allowing more than one "queued" cycle for each dot - the maximum duration would never be more than twice the dot's normal duration. I think it's a great suggestion. There may be skill involved in the current affliction rotation, but it's not fun. This idea would also help reduce DPS loss due to being forced to move around. Re: Dot Rotation Fix?
If it stacked up you could just cast every dot as many applications as you can at the start of the fight and then just go hide in a corner where nothing will happen to you and you'd be set. Queueing one up would work, it's mostly about the window of time we have to get dots up. Maybe it only queues if you recast within say the last 5 seconds of the duration? |

Re: Dot Rotation Fix?
You could get that "last few seconds" effect by allowing a maximum of (say) 150% instead of 200 - or do the reverse and get the x% effect by basing it on the % time remaining on the dot. We can't say if it would be easy to implement or not, but once done, it would be easy to tune. Last edited by Vapix; December 14, 2008 at 01:13 PM.. |

Re: Dot Rotation Fix?
Yes, I had seen a similar idea over in the original thread: Blizzard talking about different approaches to Warlock rotation - The Warlocks Den Forums Allowing us to refresh early, say in the last 10% of the duration would help. But it makes the assumption that all DoTs are a flat damage over time (which isn't true for Curse of Agony or Immolate). |

Re: Dot Rotation Fix?
We may be making different assumptions XavronMG. I'm seeing something that basically autocasts the queued up dot for you at exactly the right time. This wouldn't cut off a "high" Curse of Agony tick. You wouldn't gain any dps from it directly either. The real effect woud be some control and less dead time - for example if a dot would finish while you were casting a bolt, you could refresh the dot first, then cast the bolt. |

Re: Dot Rotation Fix?
I like the idea on the surface, but think it would be a step backwards as I explain below. But I just want to say that I disagree with other comments saying it would make the rotations easier. To me, it would add a new element of difficulty to it, as maintaining threat would be harder and you would need to have an analytical brain to work out how the fight is going to work out. You couldn't just stack all the dots up there are consequences to your actions: A) scaling back your threat if you pull aggro would become impossible B) you would run out of mana, therefor giving you no other options when the time comes for you to Fear or counter an event/situation C) your attacks become transparent and therefor easily countered in PvP So, the thought of stacking DoTs sounds appealing, but to me it just would open another can of complexity. If I was given the ability to stack dots, I wouldn't use it often.
