Really close to retireing my warlock....

Hey guys,I have been nothing but bummed since my SB spam has been taken away.I have done very very few instances in Northrend because of my crappy DPS.I could not for the life of me break more than 800-850 DPS which is horrid,I know.I tried at least 8-10 different builds,I even went as far as making a level 1 toon on onther servers so I could talk directly to some great locks.I tried different rotations, different pets, different gear.

But then last night.I got in a 5-man and when we were finished as usual I was just above the healer in DPS,but...I looked and I did the most damage dealt by far.The number 1 DPS was another lock who's damage dealt was #3.I think now personally,I'm not goanna worry about my DPS,i know for a fact that I am dealing massive damage.I also think that I am missing a tick or two after my DOT's run out or I am refreshing before they do run out.I love playing my warlock,he was the absolute first toon I made and I am not going to worry about my DPS anymore.LOL,I think i may even actually get some of my gear enchanted now..lol.

Re: Really close to retireing my warlock....

Hitting 2500 DPS with my lock with curernt spec. I enjoy having to do stuff other than SB spam now.

I have crappy gear too and my hit raiting is only 240 something right now.

Yea,don't get me wrong,I really like the few little xtra things i have to do now as well,I mean I loved seeing those big crit's with sb spam but it was boring after awhile. But,instead of SB spam now,it is Inc spam till refresh dot time.I have noticed that the timer bar gets to about 3/4 of the way and I can start the next spell at that time.I really think it is my timing that is screwing up my dps.

Re: Really close to retireing my warlock....

1) DPS - damage per second.

2) How it is measured by addons:

Total damage done while in combat / total combat time.

3) How to be number one on damage done and last one on total damage meters? On the first AOE pull go all out. Then AFK for the rest of the instance. Don't go in combat.

4) How is this relevant to this post? It's irrelevant. You're very undergeared having only 1007 spd unbuffed and only 91 haste raiting. In addition, according to your post I conclude that you were underperforming in Heroics and not in raid, which means that your hit is overcapped by about 8% including talents...

Having all that, if all you can do is 800-850 DPS with that gear and that build something is terribly wrong with the way you play your Warlock.

Re: Really close to retireing my warlock....

alright, maybe i need to clairify that I have not done any hero instances in northrend yet.I just hit 80 maybe a week ago.The instances i did was when I was level 73 or 74.I was missing alot of my attacks so that is why I chose to get more hit than what I had.The DPS numbers that I am getting is from recount with mostly me questing with felguard. The spell rotation I am using is Corr,Imm then Inc spam till refresh dot.Is the DPS I am seeing correct or do I really need to see what numbers I get from a hero?

Re: Really close to retireing my warlock....

Nice to see another masochist (tailor/engineer). We are somewhat close in gear levels and I am hitting about 2k dps even as meta (without AOE situations). Affliction was nearing 2300 for me (notice my hit is terrible right now). The locks that are running the boards in Wrath of the Lich King have the current best gear, are typically running affliction (though there are a few WWS out there for high FG/ruin and FG/emberstorm builds). Destruction looks to be decent come the patch. Note that those putting up huge numbers are also in 25 mans, where the buffs are pushing up their dps. In 5 and 10 mans, as you know, you are not going to get all those great buffs and debuffs on the mob to see the damage. We could all try to convince you to stay a lock (this is the den after all) but play what you like. I really like the DK and my rogue is actually fun but for me I love my warlock. Also, I remembering calling GW out on his post on felguard dps as BS, but I have recently seen my felguard hit a peak of 860dps. I may have to go back and apologize when he breaks 1k dps sustained.

Re: Really close to retireing my warlock....

I would love to keep playing my lock and I hate to tell ya but felguard is over 1000DPS for me.Only reason I don't wanna go to aff right now is the demanding rotation.When/if blizz does some changing around with the dot's it may come togather and I wouldn't mind going back aff.I talked to a guildie a few mins ago and he seems to think it is my talent spec.

Re: Really close to retireing my warlock....

I've been having a lot of fun dispelling the "Warlocks can't dps anymore" myth. I've been up around 2500 dps in 25 mans (I've done Naxx and Sarth so far), and was not below third in damage done on any of the bosses I did in naxx 25. As a pre BC lock, I am very happy to see 0/21/40 go, it was rediculously boring to play after you got over seeing big crits, and got us a bad reputation as a class.

This is what's important, and this is why you were the best "dps-er" on that run. There's a GREAT post somewhere here in the forums that explains it really well (hopefully someone will dig it up for ya.)

In a nutshell, you are "penalized" on DPS meters because DOTs mean that you're basically ALWAYS doing damage in a fight, whereas, for example, a rogue can do a big burst of damage ONCE, turn off auto attack, go make a sandwich, do 1/10th the damage you did to the mob but have WAY higher dps than you, because the "clock" stops counting for him when he stops doing damage.

The other post explains it far better, but hopefully that gives ya the gist of it.
