I believe that error message stems from Everlasting Affliction and not Haunt. EA gives additional spellpower bonus to each tick of UA/Corr/SL. To test this, try refreshing Corruption without Haunt up.

Blizzard fixed the issue towards the end of Burning Crusades, then broke it again in 3.0.2.

(Same basic bug, heck probably the same bug overall. It also happens with Renews and other "over time" spells.)

It is Corruption being renewed by Haunt.

Re: A more powerful spell is already active??

I actually was able to produce the message on any dot applied first with the Icon trinket, then once the trinket expired, applied again. I also tried the same tests with the Darkmoon Card: Crusade and it did the same.

When I tested proc'ing the trinket, casting Corruption, let the trinket expire, then cast haunt or drain life, it did not show this message. So, it appears, the renew of Corruption renews based on the first cast (with the higher spell power).

When this happens, it messes up my rotations. Just have to be extra careful not to clip my dots.

This is correct. Its because Everlasting Affliction makes your corruption stronger right after the first tick, and not on casting. It is strange however, i have only noticed this with corruption, never with Unstable Affliction. /shrug
