If you were to pop this every 3 minutes, it'll increase DPS by about 3% before immolation aura adds about 1K DPS/target. If you time it with heroism/bloodlust and trinkets this multiplies their effects up by 20%. Meaning even more boost. If the fight extends much past 3 minutes, you can pop this again, and again and again, and unless the fight finishes just before the CD is up, you'll get more than 3% out.

Re: Does Meta really increase your DPS?

If you want easy rotation go for 00/41/30.

Meta is awesome cooldown if used in proper way. If you have problems with cooldowns, don’t take it.
Meta can be used by inexperienced players too (it’s based on rather simply rotation), but will really show its full potential only with decent skill.

Nearly everything in meta/ruin is about timing.
Learn the fight (phases, bloodlust uptime, …)
Learn right meta timing, with bloodlust or other damage buff (malygos buff for example), try to use its full duration (start with full mana, ..)
Potion and trinket timing.
Learn how to change your rotation during Meta in different situations. (this will be far more important with decimation)
Use every GCD.

For me it is not boring and I see a deep pool of opportunities for experimenting and exploring.

Yes this is true is the fight last longer than 3 minutes. Overall dps increase is 3%, if you calculate 30s/180s*0.2.

In 3.1 cooldown will be 2 minutes (with talent) and with the spell lasting 36 seconds (with glyph), this resulting in a 6% overall increase. calculation: 36/120*0.2

The shortened cooldown will result in bigger overall dps on trash because you will be able to use meta on more trash groups. And thoose groups are seldom lasting more than 36 seconds. So on thoose it will be 20% increase.

my two cents

For calculated max DPS i think meta and 41/30 are pretty equal (slightly behind deep destro and affliction).

The 41/30 has its main strength in the fact its easy to play and easy to master. This means you can get close to full potential from this build even in less than optimum conditions (lag, bad computer etc.). So if you risk lagging in meta form, that could be a potential problem (since this is the time where you make up for the DPS lost compared to other builds earlier)

Another thing to keep in mind is that people tend to perform better when they are enjoying themselves, so if charging in spreading fiery death everywhere sounds like your kind of fun, it's probably worth a shot. You're DPS might not change that much, but you could risk having more fun;)

This is true. What I have was a worst case scenario. However 3% more DPS and immolate aura on top of that is easily worth a talent point. Of course in shorter fights, or fights where you end up *just* being able to pop it one more time, it'll offer noticeably larger returns. But 3% is the minimum pretty much. (well okay, 5 seconds for tank to get aggro, dies before it comes off CD maybe...) And that's probably the bottom line. You want to plan for the worst of times with raids, cope with that who needs to worry about the easy bits?
