Hello fellow warlocks ! These last weeks I have worked a lot to improve my gear to be able to raid with my familty type raiding guild (we typically raid Naxx and Sarth 10-men, and sometimes organize Archa25 pick up raids as a starter event in the evening). I have now a decent rate in SP for a recent raider, a good rate in hit, and a good rate in crit values. But I am a little unsure about the haste vs. crit debate as a deep demo warlock. Here a link to my Armory : The World of Warcraft Armory I would like to know if :

re: Do I wrong by rating crit>haste as a pve demolock ?
Throw out those +crit gems and replace them by hit/spellpower/haste. Stacking crit is near worthless, no matter how you're specced at the moment. Demo itsels gives you enough crit to keep up imp. SB. |

re: Do I wrong by rating crit>haste as a pve demolock ?
For a demon lock, spellstone and as above, get rid of all of those +crit gems. You seem to be at hit cap, but replace everything except the +hit gem with +Spellpower. Haste is worth much more per point than crit, especially as a demo lock, where you are basically relying on Shadowbolt spam for much of your damage. Also, don't bother with socket color matching for bonuses unless it's a lot of spellpower. For example in your gloves, replace that spell/crit with a runed scarlet ruby... to hell with the tiny big of extra stam, it doesn't help your DPS. Replace that haste/spi gem in your pants with +19 spellpower... etc. I'm not a JC, so I'm assuming your prismatic gems will drive your meta gem...? As a Demo lock you get enough crit buff from talents that you really don't need to focus on it with gear. Add to that the fact that by far the highest DPS WWS reports I've seen from Meta/Ruin locks have been guys stacking lots of haste.

re: Do I wrong by rating crit>haste as a pve demolock ?
Thank you very much, you are delivering very useful and solid information. I will follow your advices and up my haste, and replace the + crit by + SP and/or +haste. I will check as a jeweler the exact rules regarding prismatic gems regarding the metagem activation, but I am indeed pretty sur the three prismatics will count for any color so I won't have to worry avout the sockets color combination :-) Even better I just hit Exalted with Kirin Tor and acquired the recipe for the +19 SP ruby gem. Many thanks for your advices, and your point about SB being my main source of damage and therefore being more haste dependant is very logical. My first intuition was that +crit helps for aoe, but after reading the spell description ingame, I noticed... aoes are affected by haste too ! I didn't know (the intervals between each tick become shorter too) LOL

Those prismatic gems count toward your meta gem requirements. |

re: Do I wrong by rating crit>haste as a pve demolock ?
Looks like you allready regemmed, so you might not want to do it again, but just a couple of points of possible improvements: Get a spellpower enchant on weapon and gloves and regem to get back to 368 hit instead. In both cases you give up too much spell power for hit compared to the tradeoff between hit and spell power gems. Getting 50/63 spell power on weapon and 28 spell power on gloves means giving up 46 hit rating, taking you down to 325 total. This means you need to get 43 hit from gems somewhere on your gear. My suggestion would be to switch one of the 32 spell power gems for 27 hit and swap the 9sp/8haste in trinket for 16 hit, putting you at 368 hit. This process would trade 26 crit and 8 haste for 37 spell power (assuming 50 spell power on weapon), which is a very good deal. This would be as much as 50 spell power should you go with the 63 spell power enchant on weapon, but seeing the cost of that enchant, most would probably stick with the cheaper alternative and hope for a better drop in naxx. On the other hand, seeing how rare spell blades are compared the ammount of casters that want them, you risk being stuck with the spell scalpel for a long time, so enhanting it with 63 spell power might not be such a bad a idea after all. Get an enchant on your chest. 15 spirit is the highest DPS enchant while also being fairly cheap. Alot of people (myself included) prefer to get +10 to all stats, but this is alot more costly and probably not worth it on the ebonweave robes. Get Brilliant Spellthread on your pants. Spirit is worth almost as much to you as crit, so passing up 30 stamina for 20 spirit is a good idea. Last edited by Trizone; April 11, 2009 at 10:04 AM.. |
