I tend to spam SB first as really you should wait a few seconds before doing anything anyway so you dont have to hit your soul shatter too early. The cast time on SB allows the tank to get threat depending on your haste. I usually wait about 5 seconds then start casting. It is much better to do this so as you don't have to stop DPS'ing on your threat and you save your soul shatter for when it gets high later in the fight when your DPS shoots up, for the drain soul phase for example.

So for me using shadow bolt first gives me that leeway and also gets me my shadow embrace. It's a smooth rotation for me. I will add though i do use life tap before casting SB.

also, while SB/haunt first is for Maxdps, in a raid situation that isn't always possible. its better sometimes to cast your dots so that the tank can build more threat, and so a crit SB doesn't ruin your day. that or do what i've been doing sometimes, wait 5-10 seconds before beginning dps so that you don't catch up till later. managed to go until 50% on the second guy on iron council before shattering because i was at 125% of tank threat.

For the life tap buff I've been using power auras to keep track of it.

This.

Also, remember that ISB improves dps raid wide. Even if it didnt make sense from a personal dps perspective to cast it first, it would still make sense from a raid point of view.

I have a question about Haunt. If it falls off do my DoTs automatically stop dealing the extra damage? I ran Naxx for my first time over the weekend and I found that a couple of times I had to choose between casting an extra SB or refreshing Haunt before it fell off. More often than not I chose to cast SB because it deals more damage, but am I losing DPS if Haunt is not up for 2 seconds? I figure that as long as I refresh Haunt in time to refresh my DoTs then I should be good. Is that right or am I off in left field?

Re: 3.1 Affliction Rotation Discussion (Not a 'get help' thread)

i believe its the shadow mastery (or the other one forgotten the name) that gives you the extra damage so as long as thats up your good

however from hitting the training dummy the haunt does more damage in the first part of the dot than in the last in the same was as Curse of Agony winds up its damage, haunt drops off.

so your actually better to refresh the haunt when the cool down ends.

the other advantage of this is it gives a nice big window to refresh the haunt between the cool down ending and the dot ending without loosing much dps so you can cast that dps knowing its gonna go off before haunt ends but after the cool down has ended rather than sitting there bashing haunt waiting for the cool down to end or being late on the refresh and not doing any damage in that time!

The mod called Forte has many customizeable interface items that are very helpful for locks. it keeps track of DoTs, Soulstones, Healthstones, Pets, Backdraft, Lifetap buff, and every other item that we need to keep track of.

Re: 3.1 Affliction Rotation Discussion (Not a 'get help' thread)

I think some people are misguided on why you would want to LT, pop trinket, SB, haunt first. The main Reason I do is becuase As long as you cast corr right after words, your corr will always get the extra + to SP if you never let it fall off, I know you have seen it if sometimes you get frantic like me, and try to refresh Corr out of order, you will get an Error msg, "a more powerful spell is already active" Anyways, so that means the difference between idk, 400-800 sp on your corruption. Corruption accounts for around 25-30%% of my damage when I look at my DPS reports, so anything that would buff that even more, is worth it, even if it is only 100 more damage per tick. On an off note, I will sometimes pre cast a Curse of Agony to see if I can get my sundiel to proc, within the first few sec of the fight. I figure might as well do some damage while tank is building arrgo too. If it does go off I'll LT(rank 1) till I see lightweave, then pop my trinket. THEN Ill cast my SB haunt Corr and so on. If it all works right, I get an 1000 (roughly) Extra +SP and that makes a HUGE diffrence in my personal DPS

3.1 Re: 3.1 Affliction Rotation Discussion (Not a 'get help' thread)

Ok guys, this may not be the right section or place, and some may call me a noob..but i need some rotation help, first off, im a Affliction Warlock level 63, i just got Haunt, and im not really sure where to put it in my rotation or what exact skills to put in my rotation..

heres my toon- The World of Warcraft Armory

As of now, i use this rotation- CoE, Corr, UA, then spam SB, refreshing DoTs when needed (life tap when needed)

i also use this rotation- Curse of Agony, Corr, UA then spam SB until i need to refresh DoTs (life tap when needed)

but now that i have Haunt, where should i put it in my rotation? it does increase my shadow DoTs by 20% so I think it should be at the front of the rotation somewhere...but I am not really sure.

So please, anyone who can help, i need to know what rotation to use with my level 63 Affliction Warlock...and also, anyone know about what DPS i should be pulling on my level mobs?

thx in advance

I use Power Aura's for notifying me of Proc's and Lifetap timers etc. The beauty with it is you can select different symbols to appear on the screen (in any colour you want) with a timer

So for Lifetap I have a purple glow, when it fades, i know to recast it. For Nightfall I have a blue glow. I also have symbols set up for Fel Armor and Spellstone so I know when they have run out etc.

Its also REALLY useful for boss fights. On Hodir I have an aura set up to appear when I get the movement debuff (its a big blue snowflake thingy) so I know to move.

GIve it a try, you'll love it!
