Re: Cataclysm or....

The only build that I think has a good reason to prefer cataclysm is a heavy destrolock build that relies on incimmolate/conflag vs. shadowbolt and has mana issues.

Basically it's a pretty simple choice. If you are/were a tailor and you are taking or would take the spellfire specialization you should take cataclysm.

I would take the improved shadow bolt. As Ingafel said, cataclysm is only better if you want to focus on fire damange (then improved shadow bolt is pretty much usless).

Even if you PvP/Solo with Fire, if you are grouped with other shadow damage dealers; most RL's request shadowbolts instead of incinerate, for the 20% ISB damage buff.

The only time I would choose cataclysm is if you have a 0/21/40 build and don't run PvE instances regularly.

Problem with ISB is that when you switch to shadow bolt instead of incinerate, particularly if you've gone with something like spellfire, the dps you lose from going with shadow damage is far more than the damage bonus you'd actually get in practicality.

That's not to say that enough RL's aren't still living in the heady days of 1.9 and have no idea about how things actually work, but I'd say that if you go full fire damage/crit gear, especially if you're a tailor, you'd lose more by using SB than you'd give to anyone else.

Re: Cataclysm or....

at 70 imp cor gets scrapped so you shoudl use it now, and up til 50 i found the best leveling build by far is affliction coz demo its not very good until you get your felguard and destr leaves you manaless (i tried it 30-40 sigh)... coz afflic you get siphonlife which if yo udecide to occasonally pvp it can have its uses but in demo all you get for pvp is liek fel dom and demo sac thats it...
