Caveat: Certain fights will cater more to certain classes, and certain raid compositions will benefit certain classes more. I had problems keeping my Felguard alive while learning the Ulduar fights (and even posted to that effect) - I stand by my advice that warlocks go affliction until your raid ceases wiping constantly. Wipe fests are hard on shard supplies. That was weeks ago, however, and I now rarely swap out to my affliction spec. Aside from learning fights, it had been a while since I raided with the Felguard and it took time to remember how to manage him properly. My 10 man has cleared up to Yogg. My 25 man is up to Iron Council. The 10 man is very melee heavy, with limited buffs for me. The 25 man has all buffs except the 3% hit from a shadow priest/boomkin. I'll speak about the 25 man, since the buffs are more optimal. Previous to 3.1, the top spots in the charts were myself, a rogue, a warrior, a hunter, and a DK (and the order would change depending on the fight.) The rogue, who is quite good, got a noticible buff with 3.1. He is now my most consistent competition for the top spot in the charts. The warrior got a noticible nerf, and the hunter and DK don't seem much different. The warrior, after changing his spec, quickly rose back up to be competative again. My personal dps dropped slightly after the patch, but my position in the charts is unchanged. I am usually first, and rarely place lower than third unless I die early. If you are curious about numbers: Despite only have a few pieces of gear from Ulduar, I manage to stay above 4.5k dps on most fights (even trash.) I hover just above 6k on both the Razorscale fight (lots of aoe) and on the Deconstructor fight (and I don't aoe on that one.) Warlocks are by no means broken at the moment. This is not meant harshly, but if your current dps has dropped to half (or less) it's due to your playing. Look for ways in which positioning can help your performance. Pay attention to when things change in the fight which could provide an opportunity for you. |

All good points, thank you. I'm sorry, but Ulduar IS pet unfriendly, differing on each fight. I've only gotten to Thorim, so I can't speak about the further fights (casual guild - made up of mostly families with kids, myself included). I'm trying out Aff now. I like the 41/30 build and I agree its because my group and myself don't know the perfect spots for the fight (ie, not on farm status yet except for the first few fights). My personal dps hasn't suffered that much, its just that I've noticed its much harder to beat out that hunter and rogue in the meters after the patch. Frustrating. Hell, once in a rare while even a SP will creep up ahead of me. I'm sure its because I'm doing something wrong, but I just wanted some reassurrance its not because blizz buffed the other classes too much so I can't remain competitive. While blowing out the competition in dps is nice, I like the challenge of having to min/max the fights to stay near the top. I don't want to consistenly be beated out simply because of my class, instead of my skill/gear. |
