Hi guys, am levelling a new lock and decided to go aff for outlands and thought I might regail my experiences. 51/0/0 Rotation: Haunt/UA/Corr/Curse of Agony(if over 5k health) - Next mob - UA/Corr/Haunt/LT/Curse of Agony - Next Mob etc... With this rotation, you can plow through mobs without a break, to test it out, I went to a boneyard covered in vultures. 26 mobs later and i have full health/mana and have used no cd's. thats pretty awesome. The second great thing about the spec are its "Oh Sh*t" buttons, the first being the voidshield, a 1 min cd fiving and instant 50% of my health(1900 shield, my health atm is 3900) shield for free. all the while my health is being regenned by SL and Haunt.. If they get through that then a DC will restore a large potion of lost health, and reduce incoming damage, my void can mass taunt once every 2 mins. Worst comes to the worst and an iHoT will give me some breathing room. Im herbal so my Lifeblood will restore over 1k health on a 3min cd, after that I've got a Healthstone for 1440 health, and if im really desperate after that then Il use a pot, but by then my shield is usually back up! dying while in this spec is actually a challenge. I was plodding along with an fg spec before this and didnt like the idea of my levelling being based on a cd, and destro required too much downtime. Hope this helps the other levellers out there. |

I'm in Outlands currently and decided to give this a try. I bought Dual Talent and specced this as my secondary talent setup. Now I need to learn how to play Affliction (coming from Demonology) and earn the rep to get my first real armor set (thinking Dreadweave Battlegear b/c it's easy enough for me to get on my own). This is how I continued your build for level 67: 51/7/0 How would everyone recommend continuing Liche's 51/0/0 build up to level 70 or 80? Last edited by UCDoT; June 28, 2009 at 01:48 AM.. |

Ahhh, this is why, even as raid spec'd Destro, I will always be an affliction lock on the inside ![]() Back when I was leveling, my preferred method of killing, was drain tanking. I loaded up a Shadow Bolt, Haunt, UA, Corr, Curse of Agony, and spam'd drainlife. There are a few key talents that are not present in Liche's build, like Fel Concentration, and Shadow Embrace, which are necessary to be an efficient drain tanker. But this is a discussion on Liche's build, which is more of an aoe dot'ing approach. In this case, we dont have much use for destro talents, as they focus on buffing Shadowbolt in the lower tiers. Going into demo for survivability seems like the ideal choice. This would be my build at level 70: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft I chose to buff the voidwalker, rather than health stone, because the voidwalker shield plays a bigger role in this play style. Now at level 70, you are ready to pick up Soul Link, and start moving into very nice talents like Demonic Aegis and Fel Domination. Level 80: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft As you can see, I filled out the rest of the 3rd tier of demo, passing on the 4th tier in favor of harder hitting Shadowbolts. Improving your pet damage would be of minimal importance at this point seeing as you are using a VW. Hope this wall of text helps

Good call on passing up the improved healthstone. I'm too used to relying on it in a bad situation, but I guess this build doesn't really need it. I played with this spec for a few hours tonight and noticed that, although I really wasn't dying much, I couldn't keep the mobs off of me. My spell rotation was just what Liche described in the first post. I would send the VW in to tank, but half-way through the fight I would have too much threat and pull the mob off the VW. I had this same problem with the VW in my deep Demonology build. My understanding of Affliction is that I'm supposed to DoT up all the mobs in the area and run? I tried taking on 2 to 3 mobs at a time (they died, I lived) but I always had all 3 of them pummeling and stunning me the whole time. My observations are: 1) Running doesn't work -- the mobs catch me, stun me, and beat on me until they die. 2) The VW doesn't hold aggro to save his... err... my life. 3) I really like how they just drop a number of seconds after being DoTted ![]() So either I'm playing affliction completely wrong, or I need a more efficient way of escaping the mobs. I wonder if a speed enchancement of some sort is what I need... I haven't tried yet, but I can see this build being PvP'able with a combination of succubus seduction and Fear to keep the DoTs ticking while the enemy is helpless. Would be nice to have CoE and Everlasting Affliction though. |

Well I can think of very few mobs that stun you lol You must be running into a bad group of them in a questing zone ![]() First off, Liche may be able to correct me, but I cant see the VW being useful for anything except sacrifice, and maaaybe being able to put the 10% miss chance on the mobs with Suffering. You could also maybe use him as a CC for any extra mobs you pull: just have him taunt them and hold them while you deal with the rest. I would leave him on passive and just manually use him when necessary. Basically, you should'nt be worried about him tanking, you are, thats mostly the reason were going into demo ![]() You could always try drain tanking... It's basically like AoE dot'ing but with greater emphasis on killing single targets quickly. |

![]() Drain tanking with Demonology is how I leveled up into the 60's. I guess I really wanted to try Affliction for something new. I'll re-spec to your suggestion and take the points out of Improved Healthstone. Will also try your suggestion for the VW. On another note, I ran Auchenai Crypts with a pick-up group with this Affliction build and it seemed to work OK. My strategy was to spam the 'Tab' key, going from mob to mob around the tank, and DoT'ing them all. I came out just a hair ahead of the Rogue (same level) for total damage according to Recount. |

Your playing it absolutely right UCDoT, the void cant hold aggro and as fearme correctly said, the void is only useful for hold the first mob for a few seconds, and its voidshield but that shield is a huge life saver, especially if you play on a pvp realm. you simply dot up each mob and move onto the next one, the stuns you refer to are probably daze's and that's only a movement thing, dont worry too much about that. you wont die, in fact, with a little bit of practice timing your haunts and your DS's you'll never finish on anything but full health/mana. some tips: if you can get your haunt in as the killing blow and there is already a haunt on the target, you get two hits of haunt health. for my thats an instant 25% of health. always remember to cast life tap straight after casting your second haunt, you'll regain the health you lost as well as the mana spent of dot'ing the first target. If in doubt, shield and drain life, the shield blocks mobs from reducing your drain, so you'll heal and may well proc a nightfall to boot. |
