Hi guys,

i have found myself pugging OS25 and VOA10 recently as well as guild run naxx.

something i have noticed is my dps can change dramatically from one group to the next in the same raid.

for instance VOA10, one run i barely made 2k dps the whole way through where another i averaged 2.6k and peaked at 4k on one of the trash mobs. self buffed on HC dummy i consistantly pull 2.2kdps over 2mins. i have also noticed that when questing i get instant cast incins a lot more regularly than i do in raids where it almost never happens?

is this down to my various little bits procing (sundial, embroidery etc) or is it down the the make up of the group?

the high dps run did have a boomin in it which i noticed increases my crit chance a lot does this make it more likely that my other stuff is more likely to proc too?

if im right and it is down to what other classes are in the group what are a locks best raiding buddies?

thanks,

Ade

Instant procs of incinerate will be coming from Backlash. They trigger when you're being hit (physical only?) That's why you won't see them in raids, you're a clothie, being hit isn't what you're there for!

Make-up in group makes a chunk of difference, check out the raid comp on MMO champion website:
http://raidcomp.mmo-champion.com/

Was posted a while ago, but its always good knowing which role is/should be providing what buff.

Hopefully not teaching you to suck eggs, but big players are:
  • Shaman - Heroism, Totem of Wrath, Wrath of Air totem.
  • Moonkin - 5% crit, E&M debuff & 3% haste (Improved Moonkin form), MotW if only druid.
  • Mage - 5% crit.
If you've neither a mage or Shaman, but you have two or more locks - if one has duel spec in deep demonology, he could provide a similar buff to ToW & mage's crit.

In general, expect to see a drop in dps if you are in a plate/hunter/rogue heavy raid. They won't be providing as many caster friendly buffs.

Check out Tragik's threads in "Raiding builds" with regards to a better buff break down.

They're titled "knowing your buffs" - and really should be stickied.

You get buffs from other classes, certain classes really kick up your damage. A boomkin gives you 5% to crit with your spells, a rather large amount that can significantly increase dps. If you have an elemental shammie with you, his totems give you some NICE buffs, to the point I often beg spare enhancement shammies to pick up elemental as an offspec hehe.

Those 2 are the biggies for me, though other classes provide decent buffs.

first group was melee heavy second group had a boomkin and a shaman there might have been a mage in there too..

Also,

Don't worry about DPS on trash. Seriously. It's almost cliche at this point to say that, but it's simply true.

The only DPS that can actually be measured in a significant way is on a boss battle that lasts 5 minutes. Procs, buffs, and the random number generator (RNG) can play far too much into determining whether a trash mob takes 2k or 6k dps. You simply need a larger sample set (longer fight) to return meaningful results.

Re: same raid massivly different personal dps

You should also take into account the type of boss fights you are engaging in..

eg. Every time im in an Ulduar 25 guild run and we fight XT-002 I usually top the dps charts in my guild with around 5.2k dps but when we fight other bosses I only get around 3.9 - 4k dps.. I noticed that with XT i never move around, just cast from same spot whereas with other bosses I need to move around which effects my dps..
