3.2 Should we use CoE with Ebon Plague?

Hi guys,

as we all know COE is not worth putting up if your running with a balance druid putting up earth and moon or a DK putting up ebon plague.

however. my RL has asked me to put up coe despite having a DK putting up ebon plague. the reasoning behind this is the reduction of resistances that coe gives that the DK doesnt.

what do you think guys? should i push to put up COD or is the resistance reduction from COE still worth having from a raid damage perspective?

coe dosnt reduce the 5% built in resists a raid boss has, so coe and ebon plague dont stack and nothin will overcome the base resists on boses

Yep, bosses don't have spell resistances that CoE can affect. Using CoE when you have a balance druid or unholy DK attacking the target is a complete waste.

I remember seeing somewhere that CoE was worth putting up on Sapphiron due to the high frost resistance, but I imagine the value of its worth would be proportional to the number of Frost Mages and Frost DKs in the group.
Other than that, same as above.

Maybe a totally noob question.. Are there anyone else who experience higher DPS on the dummies with CoE compared to CoD? Is this something that is specific to the dummies? I average about 4-500 dps more. The fights are ofc several minutes long.

CoE increases magic damage by 13%.

CoD doesn't do more than 13% of your total damage, so you will see a boost with CoE.

Just as a really rough example, lets say 1% = 1 damage:

With CoD:
Incinerate = 45
Conflagrate = 20
Immolate = 10
Chaos Bolt = 10
Imp = 10
CoD = 5
Total = 100

So, with CoE:
Incinerate = 45 + 13% = 50.8
Conflagrate = 20 + 13% = 22.6
Immolate = 10 + 13% = 11.3
Chaos Bolt = 10 + 13% = 11.3
Imp = 10 + 13% = 11.3
Total = 107.3

So despite losing the 5% of your dps from CoD, CoE ends up with much higher results. Of course this is very rough math but the general idea holds. Plus, if you are running with other casters, their damage will be increased by 13% also, so everyone wins.

As others have stated, the only reason not to cast CoE is if there is a Moonkin or Unholy DK in your group. Even still have it handy incase the moonkin/DK dies, DCs, or is on another target.

I would really like to see your assumptions backed up by some simcrafting. I agree in regards to the raid, however.

I believe this was in reply to why CoE looked better on a dummy. I could be wrong though.
