What version are you using? A couple of patches ago, Fel Armor ticks were patched to still tick even if you were at full health. I believe older versions of recount think of this as still being active in the fight and so more time is added to the denominator of DPS.

^ This.

I've not tried minnastats yet, but I've been using recount since it's release. This is my experience:
If I die early and have dots up on the target my dps usually drops a few hundred points because, for several seconds after my death, I continue to do a portion of my total damage with the ticking dots.

In general, DPS is a measure of your potential damage whereas your raid contribution is actually measured by your total damage output.
Comparing a players total damage to their dps is an excellent gauge of how well the person plays. Fight mechanics aside, good players spend more time dpsing and less time moving. They also have less downtime between casts.

If you see someone with relatively low dps but competitive total damage, it usually means they are an undergeared but extremely skillful player. (Assuming that everyone being compared also survived to the end of the fight.)

I have just downloaded the curse client version that was available yesterday. I am not able to check the version number from here at work.

That is a very interesting theory though.

I will say that the experiment that we did lasted about 4 miniutes and the meters disagreed from start to finish, not just at the final moments.

But if recount had considered me incombat for several miniutes prior to the start because of fel armor ticks.....well you might be onto something there. But unless curse client is carrying an old revision, I should have the latest.

Just for info sake here's my dps set up:
fel armor, crit spell crystal, And bloodpact for buffs.

Rotation: lifetap, immolate, curse of elements, conflagerate, chaos bolt, incinerate, incinerate, incinerate, conflagerate, immolate, chaos bolt, incinerate.....etc...

Do you think the curse of elements is not being accounted for correctly?

I have dpsd for 2 min straight on a training dummy and used a calculator through my damage log and have gotten completely higher numbers than recount posted.

So my wife and tried a experiment with minnastats vs recount.

I loaded recount, she loaded minnastats and we joined group.

We buffed and went after the training dummy until one of use ran out of mana.

Both recount and minnastats agreed her Mage dps was5300 +\- 10.

However minastats showed my warlock at around 6k and recount showed my warlock at 4100.

Both set to include pet damge and both of us in the same room, same connection, same fight duration, same everything.

Mage and warlock 2600ish gear scores, arcane and destro.
I actually saw proof of this I was using recount on the test dummy along with Skada damage meter. The immolate ticks are not the same by about half. All other damage read the same, except corruption Recount showed one missing.

I like recounts charts, but it does not calculate everything correctly. Skada does not have the charts mode, or I have not found how to get them to come up.
