3.2 Multiple raid loc's and talent composition.

I was a hardcore affliction warlock forever until I started to get whipped by destro locks but I am now in an active raiding guild again and I am more interested in raid success than personal DPS score. I am trying to do some testing with me switching back to affliction for the 5/5 improved shadow bolt buff for the raid. Last raid had two locks, 4 mages and a couple of shamans for casters.

My question is maximizing the raid buffs that warlocks can do for a raid. I am starting to do tests on the target dummies with other raid members to see what the dps gain is when I have the shadow bolt buff on the dummy and without. I am running 2 minute tests with them going all out and then 2 minutes with the ISB debuff to the dummy.

Has anyone tested this using base line tests like the one above as I am trying to justify if my dps loss as affliction is over compensated by a dps gain from five other casters.

Also if you have other ides for multiple warlock raid composition please let me know as I have never played Demo in raids or Demo/Meta (what ever its called) either. I do like the numbers with Destro but I do play affliction very well as it was always my main spec.

The two locks in question are :
Affliction
Falcyndark The World of Warcraft Armory
Please note some gear is not maxed out with gems as I was just revamping this toon. Also I am more interested in talent raid advice here.

Destro
Dalaul
The World of Warcraft Armory

Thank you in advance for any input.
Regards,
Falcyndark

We run 1 Destro locks and one Demo/meta lock for SP buff. Key is having enough spell power to justify the reduction in dps for the demo lock and having a raid composition of enough casters to make it useful. I find with the huge difference in dps with melee now we take fewer and fewer caster dps in raids. We usually have 1 warrior tank, 1 pally tank, 2 DK's 2-3 Warriors, 2 Ret Pally's 3 rouges and 2-3 feral druids add 6-7 healers and the caster dps slots are few. Also the Demo lock specs 5/5 in ISB which eliminates the need for us to have an affliction lock except on Yogg fights.

Dooing tests on a dummy without full raid composition isen't a 'scientific approach' . (no offence to you mate!). The only baseline there is to this kind of testing is the _actual baseline_. If you wan't to make test's then do them under real raid-enviorments (preferable during boss-fights that are on farm by your guild).

If you and your guild-mates are willing to go into that kind of testing, them I'm sure that you are already using a warlock with Demonic Pact, as it's a massive DPS increase over anything else (also knowns as rDps). Side note: They are spec'ed with 5/5 ISB, and give a MASSIVE raid DPS increase, if the requirements are met.

But just incase somebody else is interrested, more info about rDps and Demonic Pact warlocks can be found on the EJ-forums : PVE Raiding Compendium V3.1 - Elitist Jerks

- Under the section named "Spec 4. rDps"

I hope that I somehow contributed to your question.

Good luck Falcyndark!

Odds are, if you want to help the raid as much as possible, Meta/ruin is the way to go. If you're sitting around 3k SP raid buffed, you'll not only keep up the scorch buff so the mages don't have to, but also give a raid wide 300sp buff, that gets even better with better gear. The loss in your personal dps will easily be made up for in raid damage increase. Also, the most meta/ruin builds I see don't take imp HS, which boggles my mind, if you're going a spec to help the raid, take a talent that gives bigger HS's to the raid.

I was running Meta/ruin, and still dealt respectable damage, Destro locks are hard to keep up with, but they'll still sit them before a meta/ruin if the raid leader isn't stupid. Also, soulfire/SB rotation takes some practice, if you can hit the sweet spot, you can switch 1 for 1, otherwise you'll likely end up SB another spell, then SF. It's a fun spec, just remember to pop your cooldowns as much as possible. I've got a few really good Demo lock macros if you end up going Demo.
