Would really appreciate some guidance on tweeking my lock. The World of Warcraft Armory My guild currently only runs 10 man instances as we don’t have the numbers for 25 and I’m the only raiding lock in the guild. I rolled my lock way back only as a play thing to help me grind mats. My main char has always been a holy priest for over 4 years, and pre dual spec, grinding anything with a holy priest was a complete chore. About 2 months ago, one of our locks left and as we had some good healers in the guild I was encouraged to get my lock into raid spec, which I’ve now done. I spent alot of time reading these forums for basic tips and advice and this has really helped me improve. I do the standard rotation CoE/CoD (depending on RL request and raid composition) -> Immo -> CB -> Conflag -> Inc...Inc...Inc and Conflag again as soon as its off CD...Refresh Immo and go again. My total damage done is sporadic, but I put alot of that down to having spent 4 years having to concentrate on healing frames, and not targeting adds (but its improving) when clearing trash. My DPS on static bosses is good. I did Naxx 10 on Sunday to help some guildies with alts and did over 5K on Grob (with shammy heroism). However, I do notice that when I do VoA or OSS 25 in pugs, my damage gets owned by other locks, with probably same or worse gear than me. This tells me that i’ve probably missed something in my build or spec and would appreciate any comments or feedback to help me improve. Thanking you in advance |

It's not a complete deal breaker, but ditch the intellect, stam and spirit gems. The stickies might help. |

As a former healer you may be used to overemphasizing on crit. I notice that your haste is way too low, about 150 rating. For a deep destro build haste is so much more useful and will provide a huge dps boost. Strive to get at least 300-350 haste rating, the ideal being close to 400-500. Also, sometimes it is simply better to ditch the socket boni and go for straight spellpower socketing. There is an updated 3.2 spreadsheet the can tell you how gemming affects your dps. Gemming for straight intellect or spirit is a big no in any case... Other than that, you'll get better at it as you get used to the fights as a dps. Have fun dpsing

After a long time reading the den, finally my first post Hope the English is ok…Don’t know if you did it intentionally, but with your current spec and gear you are self hit capped. What's the Hit cap Mr. Wolf? Depending on the raid setup, you could take 3-4% hit off your gear improving your haste. With nearly 600 spirit, I would recommend using glyph of life tap instead of immolate and work LT it into your rotation. Or, if you don’t want to use glyph of LT, leave your gear as it is and use the points from suppression, shadow fury and one from Destructive reach to spec into improved DS. You won’t need to LT in most of the fights then. Although dps wise the first solution is preferable. Last edited by Sarol; September 16, 2009 at 10:59 AM.. |

Re: Need Guidance to Improve Damage Output
Thanks for the advice. I've deliberately gone to hit cap as we rarely raid with a boomkin, and I've always been led to believe that being short on hit is a no no. I prefer to use my food to buff my primary stat (spell power). I'll look at the haste and start mining for haste gear. When we did Ulduar last week I won a trinket that was haste based but then gave it to one of our Mages as it was a slight upgrade for him

Yeah, gems are pretty messed up, for raiding the only 2 things to worry about are Spellpower and unlocking the Meta socket. Socket bonuses of +7 Spellpower are worth looking into if you need to use 1 non-Red gem, but otherwise +23 Spellpower is your best bet. Other than that, work on getting the best enchants, replacing the PvP ring, and building up your haste. Just replacing the enchants and gems should boost your spellpower by a good bit. |

And as others have said, you have a heavy focus on crit, but haste is more important. There are many raidbuffs that increase crit, not to mention your own Empowered Imp, but only very few that increase haste. Plus haste gives more effect per point then crit according to theorycrafting. ie. if you can get 45 haste or 50 crit, go for the haste. I'd advice to stay away from haste-procs though. They have a tendency to mess up timing and a part of it often gets negated because the global cooldown gets in the way.
