Lead in Dmg but Low Dps?
I have just started running some 5 man heroics/25 man stuff and I have been working on my DPS, by reading here, upgrading gear and working on my rotation. Now after a few fights I was analyzing my damage meter. While I was consistently in the top 3-5 for overall damage. My DPS was embarrassingly low. Like 1k -1.5k. How can you be in the top tier for damage and suck so desperately for DPS? What am I missing? Feel free to offer any advice for improving my DPS. Here is my Wow heroes profile (only one I can get updated) WoW Heroes - World of Warcraft PvE character info & ratings I am working on gemming, I am cash shy so saving up for Chaotic Skyfire Meta and more 19 damage gems. Also working on Kirin Tor faction for head. I am confident I know how to gem and upgrade my gear, just need the time and money. My rotation is Corruption/Curse of Agony (Or doom still confused how to pick)Immolate/LifeTap then Incinerate until I get decimation then I alternate with Soulfire. I think I may be a dot clipper, I have a meter to help me with that. That or I get wrapped up in watching for Decimation that I forget to reapply. Am I just capped on DPS for what I have gear and spec wise and whats up with leading in damage but sucking in dps? |

either youre far more active than everyone else, e.g. starting to cast 10 seconds before everyone else (which is unlikely) or youre using an addon that isnt stopping combat correctly after the boss dies. try updating your recount or skada or whatever it is youre using and see if it changes. also try to sneak a peek during combat to see if youre on par with the rest of the group. |

Make sure you are merging damage with pet owner if using Recount. |

I am using recount...I will check both those suggestions. I am definitely not starting early so I know that's not it lol |

I use recount and run into the same problem. I find that my dps drops about 900-1200 after the fight is over. A lot of locks have a problem with this. Also, if you die, you're DPS will suffer more where as most peoples DPS would come to a quick stop, our damage keeps going, but looses filler. I've had many fights where I died, and was able to hold near the top with my Dot's still going, and my DPS drops about 2k ish. |

I was watching my dots run off the training dummy today and noticed my DPS falling fast. I know Dummies are not a great indicator, but after watching them mid fight, I feel better about my DPS. Forgive me if this is the wrong place to as this. I have read many faqs but have not seen this one answered. I tried opening the real time graph in Recount to see what it tracked. Now on the top there was my DPS and it was what I have come to expect 1.7 k However the actual graph was clibming as high as 4k What is the graph tracking? Is it dps? Is that my real DPS? or is the number on top like some sort of average? I have overthought this way too much. |

There has been quite a bit wirtten about this topic. If you look on page 4 of Spells, Talents, DPS discussion, there is a post by Elricc titled 'Damage Meter Confusion'. Take some time to read this thread especially the posts by Debuff and Elsia. It should answer your questions and make you feel better. I wish i could link all this, but dont know how. |
