I thought i would start a thread so i don't start making other demo related threads deviate. Basically i only raid 10man, as a few of you know and when i hit 80 i was a pure afflock through and through. After a month or so and once 3.1 really got going i caught the destro bug, and i have been destro as my main spec since mid summer. Now i can do over 7k on some fights as destro, pushing up to 15k on fights such as Hodir for example and over 10k on fights such as the Twin Valkyrs. That's all well and good, but i though to myself, what if i played demonology? What if in my 10 man raids, i provided this valuable buff? What would my dps be like? I put this through Simcraft and ran it as our current raid setup, and despite me losing a few hundred dps the other casters gained almost a 1500 dps between them. So i decided to try demo out. Never really played it much before, tried it once but changed back. However i have now tried it in Ulduar10, VoA25 and a few heroics and i thought i'd share my views. First off, it was fairly weak in Ulduar. At that point i was still trying to work out the rotation to suit the fight, some fights are quite hard (such as Freya) when it comes to knowing what to cast when and with target switching, so i averaged around 5k overall. Do note i wasn't hit capped quite and also we didn't have the boomkin we normally had, who puts my destro dps to around 6k. I then went to VoA25, and by that point i had got the hang of it. I did over 6k for both Emalon and Koralon, out dpsing the next by 2% overall damage. The group wasn't particularly strong, but i was pretty amazed at how i managed to beat mages and destro warlocks not that much less geared than myself as the worst dps warlock spec, and on my first day of trying it. Of course, this probably has alot to do with gear etc. I am yet to try it in TOC, i believe it will suit most fights, especially Anub'arak. The Twins i am not so sure, i guess it doesn't matter too much. I wanted to say i am impressed so far, and with the DP i give most casters and healers up to 400 spell power each, which is an astonishing amount. If you are in a 25man guild or a 10man guild with a caster heavy setup, and you have been itching to try demo full time, i would recommend. Of course i have only tried this for a day and i am not disputing the other two specs, i am simply saying that this spec has alot of potential and i am very confident that the dps will be closely competing with affli/destro locks in the next patch. I was mainly wondering what your thoughts are about raiding with the demo spec right now, whether any of you have made this change? The downside is i don't see my nice 7k numbers anymore, but the fun of demo aoe and the playstyle makes up for it and i know i'm being useful to the raid. Are there any fights i should spec destro for? and are there any fights demo shines? Also, under 35%, should you keep dots up? And in order to decimation to come up SB has to reach the target. Is it better to wait or to spam another shadow bolt during flight time? This will all change and get much easier next patch of course. |

Re: My demo experience
I have been using demo on a few raids..I have seen the Casters DPS go up quite a bit, on twins I saw 2 mages hit over 12kdps. Now yes they did get the power buff, but on previous attempts they never hit above 8.8kdps. My personnel DPS was much lower around 4.5 k and I still had not got the weaving down. That night to was the first time we ever went all the way through TOTC 25 with out 1 wipe and are death count was like 6 total for the hole raid. By far the best and encounter was Onyxia. I go rush in start dpsing the boss. She does her turn and lift off. Now I have been holding back to use Meta form and immolate aurora. Everyone knows how I like to turn in to Illidan. The whelps spawn the pali,s grab them I then target a welp pop the the Meta and demon charge crash into the pile and Immolate Aurora goes off. I have pulled all the whelps off the pali's and am now tanking them. My health bar is bouncing full range faster then a sprint cars Tachometer on a short dirt track. I was seeding as fast as I could. The screen was full of all kinds of large yellow numbers. Thank god the healers caught on. The whelps all died and amazingly I survived. I then went back to the boss. Once Onyxia landed all the work I put in on the whelps was for not. The tank did not turn her back to the wall and when the fear came I was forced to run in front of her where the cleave and her bad breath did me in. |

Re: My demo experience
I love your subject title. I've always played demonology and I think it's the only way to level and besides destruction when raiding, the only other spec to ever be. I dislike Affliction completely. I'm not saying it isn't good, or worthy, it just isn't really for me. I don't like channeling spells, and I've never been able to make drain mana or drain health economical. I love my Felguard and take him everywhere I go. Though I am dual speccing to a destro raid build soon, I will always have my Felguard because there's no other way to solo. Reading your subject title got me thinking about that essay on demonology I've been kicking around inside my head. |
