So here the content patch comes, and going around taking the temperature, the general majority of players (not just warlocks) seem to be of the opinion that things will be a an unworkable mess. Numerous informed players and theorycrafters, and considerably less sincere word press folk are firing out information as quickly as possible. Many lvl90 guides are being put together, compendiums made, etc. So far, however, I have yet see a thread dedicated to the raiding/dungeoning we will be doing on live up until mists comes out. I think I saw a post by Sparkuggz of some panda simcraft numbers that had an hT13 profile, and that was very helpful; it was really just a sidenote though. I'd like to point out, if not reiterate, that many will be playing for a bit of time on Live before the expansion comes. I understand that the new talents will not be balanced for 85; I don't see that as a reason not to take advantage of a short opportunity to test out all the changes on the current content (can you say Yorsaj adds double demon-felstorm?). I doubt I'm alone in this.

Edit: To add, the main point of this is to honestly have some fun, and help those who are perhaps still progressing through, or just coming into, the T13 content.

I'm interested if people see a big difference between Demo and Affliction at 85? Like you said they may not be balanced at 85, but I'm seeing a 9k difference. On live, demo for me is doing 34k, and on beta it does 35k (level 85 testing dummy with no doomguard, average after a couple minutes). When I try affliction on the beta, after a couple minutes it's averaging 26k. It starts out good (up to 40k) but rapidly declines, with no improvement. I'm following the action priorty list to the best of my understanding that Simcraft uses, with Grim. of Service for Demo and Grim. of Sac. for Affliction.

I think people are in for a shock come Tuesday, lol.

Cata Re: Optimizing our last month

Simcraft is up! I'll be sharing results and scale factors as I get them.
I've been focusing on destro and aff so far, and I'm not yet familiar how to link selected parts of a sim's results; please bear with me. I'll be posting just pawn strings and dps for brevity. These are run at 25k iterations on a Patchwerk fight, w/o deterministic RNG. Full raid buffs and composition are assumed, as is the 15% hit cap. In order to import the pawn string into something like reforgelite, just delete my character name "Barlockk" at the beginning, and enter "yours."

Destro:
Glyphs: glyphs=dark_soul/conflagrate/burning_embers
Grimoire: Sacrifice
DPS: 55747
Stat Ranking: Int > SP > Mastery > Crit > Haste
( Pawn: v1: "Barlockk": Intellect=5.45, SpellDamage=4.10, HitRating=4.46, CritRating=3.16, HasteRating=1.99, MasteryRating=3.36 )

Affliction:
Glyphs: glyphs=soul_swap/dark_soul/soul_shards
Grimoire: Sacrifice
DPS: 59972
Stat Ranking: Int > Haste = Mastery > Crit
( Pawn: v1: "Barlockk": Intellect=5.84, SpellDamage=4.49, HitRating=4.10, CritRating=2.87, HasteRating=4.35, MasteryRating=4.27 )

Notes: On both specs, as expected, the haste threshold of 1980 holds. With affliction and destro, haste leading up to ~1960 scales at a constant rate. At that point, it then scales sharply up till 1980, where it resumes scaling at a similar and less dramatic rate like before. I'll get some numbers and %'s out soon for the benefit of the threshold.

Also, something I forgot to include is that the fight time is set to 300s. Also, keep in mind that this is a patchwerk fight.

Affliction: maintaining a haste minimum of 2k.
Glyphs: glyphs=soul_swap/dark_soul/soul_shards
Grimoire: Sacrifice
DPS: 59955
Stat Ranking: Int > Haste = Mastery > Crit
Current stats:
Spell Haste: 2080 on gear, which equals 19.73%. Raid buffed=25.72%.
Mastery: 2293 on gear = 64.45%. Raid buffed = 79.89%
Crit: 607 on gear = 17.53%. Raid buffed = 23.77%.
( Pawn: v1: "Barlockk": Intellect=5.84, SpellDamage=4.47, HitRating=3.99, CritRating=2.85, HasteRating=4.29, MasteryRating=4.24 )

Affliction: maintaining a haste minimum of 2k.
Glyphs: glyphs=soul_swap/siphon_life/soul_shards/
Grimoire: Sacrifice
DPS: 60539
Stat Priorities: Int > Mastery > Haste > Crit
Stats:
Spell Haste: 2080 on gear, which equals 19.73%. Raid buffed=25.72%.
Mastery: 2293 on gear = 64.45%. Raid buffed = 79.89%
Crit: 607 on gear = 17.53%. Raid buffed = 23.77%.
( Pawn: v1: "Barlockk": Intellect=5.92, SpellDamage=4.55, HitRating=4.09, CritRating=2.89, HasteRating=3.35, MasteryRating=4.32 )

After the haste threshold of 1980, in the example with siphon life, it appears that Haste and Mastery scale very closely. They scale slightly more closely in the example with dark soul, but taking Liphon Life over Dark Soul appears to be about a 1% dps gain.
Using the above values, I've regemmed slots with reds that were occupying a yellow slot when a bonus of 10 int is available with a 25int/25mastery, for, yet again, a very marginal gain.
There appears to be another haste threshold at 2420, and it concludes at 2440.

I'm sure there is, or used to be (and it's getting fixed) a spreadsheet with haste breakpoints, but honestly, I really prefer to see where they are with relation to other stats as they scale.

Some interesting results:

Affliction: maintaining a haste minimum of 2k.
Glyphs: glyphs=soul_swap/dark_soul/soul_shards/
Grimoire: Supremacy
DPS: 56053
Stat Priorities: Int > Haste > Mastery > Crit
Stats:
Spell Haste: 2080 on gear, which equals 19.73%. Raid buffed=25.72%.
Mastery: 2293 on gear = 64.45%. Raid buffed = 79.89%.
Crit: 607 on gear = 17.53%. Raid buffed = 23.77%.
( Pawn: v1: "Barlockk": Intellect=5.41, SpellDamage=4.14, HitRating=3.63, CritRating=2.66, HasteRating=4.25, MasteryRating=3.52 )

Those haste thresholds are haste on gear, I assume?

Yes; a practical explanation is that when I talk about the haste thresholds, I'm referring to a soft cap you'd apply on a reforging calculator, with an "at least" conditional.

I'll be posting more tomorrow, with more exact haste thresholds, along with their worth.

As affliction, I actually lost a small amount of dps over 10,000 fights going from 1960 to 1994 haste, trading for mastery. Icy Veins and other online forums and guides say mastery>haste once 15% hit capped, but there is still debate. Even if you gain an extra tick of a dot at that threshold, it may not be worth trying to achieve the threshold at the expense of mastery points. If you happen to have enough haste on your gear to hit them, it's a nice bonus.

I'm going to be following the haste v mastery issue closely over the next month.

Re: Optimizing our last month

I'm very sorry for the delay guys. I had a to do a systems reset, and managed to lose numerous (re: days of) sims and the information/scale factors/haste thresholds calculated from them. Luckily, some things did get saved, so I'm not starting from scratch. Additionally, on simulationcraft.org there are a few more scenarios that have been tested, which will answer some aoe questions for a) what is current @85, and b) what is to come @90. Also, there is a new haste analysis spreadsheet out, and I'm asking for permission to post a link here.

Here is the new spreadsheet made by Keldion. I am simming right now to see which haste point provides the greatest dps gains, and will be calculating the tradeoffs shortly.
