What's a good build for instances such as scholo or strat?

I'm affliction specced now with the remaining points in destruction. At this point, it just seems that a bulk of the damage I do is usually SB because in instances, Curse of Agony doesn't seem to help all that much.

I'm level 56 right now and I'm thinking of respeccing to a ruin build. Can anyone recommend one for me?

in instance is not matter MAX you can do. its more of the MAX you can do WITHOUT getting aggro. I personally like to get demo build to get MD and have imp out to lower aggro and for the buffs they have. and also you can nuke happy w/o worry aggro. just my personal way.

In Strat and Scholo you won't be placing Curse of Agony on mobs, why? Because they die so quick. Same goes for Corruption unless you have a Nightfall build, and then you're mostly placing it on to get the proc, not for the DoT damage. A lot of Warlocks get a real shock when they start consistantly running instances because it's such a different way to killing than when solo'ing, and yes, most of the time you are only doing Shadowbolt.

You could look at a more Destruction focused built, get the instant cast nuke (can't remember name at work), as well as shave some time off your SB. Just be careful though, as mentioned above you want to be doing the most damage you can SO LONG AS you are not contually pulling aggro. Sometimes ruin can be more trouble than it's worth, especially if you start getting some + damage items.

I was a Demonology build while leveling, and stayed Demonolgy while doing Strat, Scholo, DM, UBRS etc etc. It was only once I was almost done with those instances and really only in MC / BWL and now AQ did I look at changing, and mostly because I wanted to try something new.

I'm personally of the belief that a "good" build for what ever you want, is what makes you happy. Have a look at a talent calculator, read up on the threads here about all the different talent buils and have a look at the individual talent information. Sometimes the best build can be a non standard one.

I am the same way. This has worked best for me overall and I have tried all the different builds. See I don't look at myself as a primary damage warlock. I look at myself as the primary party enchancer. I use imp to increase the MT health (always in the first group when raiding). I use curses that will increase the damage of the majority of the group/raid. Basicly I will use CoE in raids since there are always mages. In groups it depends on the group make up on what curse I use. Groups high in melee and low in overall spell damage I use Curse of Reckless (8% damage increase to melee damage). Groups with moderate to heavy spell caster (any mages) I use CoE. Groups with say a priest and druid(expecially balance druids) a couple of melee and me I use Curse of Shadow to enchance my damage as well as the priests shadow damage and the druids arcane damage since they seem to spam moonbeam. When there are multiple mobs that are CC'd I will go around each of them and apply whatever curse I need for them so when they are released they are already to be beat down and I have had time to regain mana(like thats hard but less I have to lifetap the easier it is to keep those healers from trying to heal me all the time and wasting their mana) Then I just do what damage I can with shadowbolt, searing pain, and immolate on the MT main target. Using corruption or Curse of Agony in groups just is a waste cause the targets die so fast they don't get the full effect. If a mob charges our healer or mage I will hit em with searing pain as hard as I can to pull em off then take the damage till the MT grabs em back. Being SL specced I can take alot more damage then they can and if I do die well thats what res is for. Alot easier to res one brave warlock then to recover from a wipe cause your healer died. I also have the defilers talisman which is basicly a low level power word shield that will take an extra 450 damage off me. This seems to work the best for me and I usually get asked back to many many groups and raids because of this.
