Heavy Destruction Build (7/7/37)

Code:
Affliction (7 points)

  5/5 Improved Corruption
  2/2 Improved Life Tap

Demonology (7 points)

  2/2 Improved Healthstone
  5/5 Demonic Embrace

Destruction (37 points)

  5/5 Cataclysm
  5/5 Bane
  5/5 Devastation
  1/1 Shadowburn
  2/2 Intensity
  2/2 Destructive Reach
  5/5 Improved Searing Pain
  5/5 Improved Immolate
  1/1 Ruin
  5/5 Emberstorm
  1/1 Conflagrate
http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?IV0bZbxZVx0trxtt

I love this build.
I don't care much for how I perform during raids. My focus is primarily PvP.
Soul Linking isn't my style, so doing heavy burst damage was my only other build choice, really.

With this build I can do massive amounts of damage on unsuspecting targets. The Immolate, Shadowbolt, Conflag combo takes 5.5 seconds (assuming global cooldown of 1.5 secs, and if you hit conflag right after you release the shadowbolt it beats the global cooldown). That frequent combo easily averages 3000ish damage and can do 4000-4700 if 2 or more crit (with mediocre gear like mine).
And that's before following it up with a seduce or fear and additional nuking, DOTs.

The only troubles I come across (when Death Coil is down) are undead rogues, berserking warriors, and BM hunters. Most of these guys are cake, unless they're experienced/looted players.

If an undead rogue jumps me and I don't have Death Coil up, unless they suck tremendously, I'm usually fubar. Sure, I can seduce, maybe Escape Artist out of crippling poison, but by that time the UD rogue has WOTFed and has got me in another stunlock. I just don't see how a destro build (with death coil down) is supposed to survive an UD rogue solo.

If a warrior chargestuns me, I can Death Coil or Seduce out of it (assuming he hasn't killed me already). I can try to fear him away, but eventually he goes berserk charge stuns me again, and continues to tear through me like tissue paper.

BM hunters. Tosses cat on me. Can't fear it away. Spell Interruptions. All the while the hunter is nuking me. /cry

I've considered taking 5 points out of Improved Searing Pain and putting 3 in Improved Imp, 2 in Improved Firebolt for a pimped out machine-gunner Imp, but I can't imagine it being better than the defense/offense utility the way the Succubus and its Seduce is.
I do use Searing Pain, when I want to do DD in PvP but don't have the extra time for an SB.

Anyone have variants/comments/suggestions about this build or similar builds? or PvP strategies for a Destro lock on the above classes?
Anything you can add would be appreciated.

Re: Heavy Destruction Build (7/7/37)

I pretty much have the same built as yours and i am also gnome lock with escape of artist.
I do face the exact same problems you have with warriors, rogues and hunters and i am rank 12, Marshall.
However for warriors, they tend to go enrage and berzerking and then they die extremely fast as long as you can kite them >< really hard but worth try. With rogues i kinda gave up unless he is terrible.

I wouldt get rid of improve searing pain for pvp, its good damage and fast and with 5 talents points into it you get a lot of crits, and its nice to finish off.
I dont really use shadowbolt for pvp unless they dont see me (hide in the bushes for gnomes is awsome) or he is far enough, if not it gets interrupted against melee and i cant do any damage.
I would get rid of the 2/2 in healthstone and and get imp firebolt for your imp, nice interruption against casters.

Here is my built:

I have had it for a while, changed it a little but always go back to this one.

Re: Heavy Destruction Build (7/7/37)

IMO, if you're going to routinely use the machine gunner imp, you'd do best to have 3 points in imp. imp. Other players simply don't bother messing with the imp. He's too damn small to harass (unless your opponent is just trying to be a jerk and kill your pet), and he's a little killer with 5 talent points put into him and his firebolt.

Check-out this build:

http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?IV0oZcxZxxbtMxtt

Yes, you've only got 1 point in imp. life tap; but, honestly, you won't miss that extra point in pvp. What the build does give you (assuming you are ready to try playing without the succy) is a rapid fire killer who adds 500hp to you. In the 5.5 seconds it takes you to cast your immolate/shadowbolt/conflag. combo, your little buddy has done over 600 additional damage to your target (higher if he crits and if your target has low fire resist). You also get imp. corruption and the full benefit of a heavy destro. build.

Forget imp. healthstone. Do the extra ~200 hp healed by it really make that much of a difference on the battlefield?

I really enjoy pvp without the succy. It's nice not to have to waste a soul stone at the outset of each BG, and the improved imp with improved firebolt out-damages her anyway. Seduce is helpful in 1-on-1 and 1-on-2 situations (frequently encountered if you are defending your node/flag). However, since you are not soul link, your best place on the battlefield is a more offensive role anyway.

Good luck!

Re: Heavy Destruction Build (7/7/37)

Thanks for the replies.

I've taken a glance at your comments and I think
http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?IV0oZcxZxxbtMxtt
might be an enticing build if I want to use my Imp for PvP.

Hmmm... I'm not sure if I want to totally throw away my 1v1 capabilities by using an Imp instead of Succubus.

The extra damage and life from my Imp would be great and all, but Seduce is near invaluable for me.

And it looks like if I were to get imp imp and imp firebolt, I'd be losing out on Intensity, which would basically gimp me for AoE. My primary talent build is suited for PvP, but I occasionally do an instance or 2 where my AoEing is relied on heavily. If I resist none of the hits I take, I'd be pretty gimp :(

I ran through the talents again and looked at what I actually use during PvP and optimize my build for that
http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?IV0bZ0xZVx0trgtt

Affliction (7 points)

5/5 Improved Corruption
2/2 Improved Life Tap

Demonology (5 points)

5/5 Demonic Embrace

Destruction (39 points)

5/5 Cataclysm
5/5 Bane
5/5 Devastation
1/1 Shadowburn
2/2 Intensity
2/2 Destructive Reach
5/5 Improved Searing Pain
2/2 Pyroclasm
5/5 Improved Immolate
1/1 Ruin
5/5 Emberstorm
1/1 Conflagrate

Basically I just took 2 points out of Imp. Healthstone (which I don't really use anyway. I don't have time to create healthstones and drink during battlegrounds) and put them in Pyroclasm.
Occasionally I do Rain of Fire/Hellfire in BGs (at nodes), and a 1/4 chance of a stun wouldn't be so bad.
Pyroclasm also works for Soul Fire, which I occasionally open a barrage with.

7/5/39 is looking pretty good to me, now that I've thought about it. (Which is funny, because I was specced this way before I made the post anyway x.x). All that text just so I could decide on the same build again, hehe.

Thanks for the comments. Any more will continued to be appreciated :D

Re: Heavy Destruction Build (7/7/37)

I respecced yesterday to

7/3/41 -- I absolutely love it. We clear BWL tonight, so i get to see how gimped i am for PvE, but in PVP my burst damage is pure ownage, with the machine gun imp to finish them off.
