Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
Hey all, new here. Just want you guys to give me a reason to stay a heavy destruction build (7/8/36) for PvE Raids. Our Guild is now heavy into AQ40 and Naxx, with a once a week BWL clear. I am equipped with a fetish of the Sand Reaver, and do love the conflag and Imp Firebolt/Stam. But I also love SM/Ruin. I loved the massive shadowbolt crits, nightfall, and extended reach on the dots. I do PvP as well, and have found both builds to get me to the top of the KB charts, with Heavy D getting me there faster . What do you guys suggest?Should also mention that I have +488 damage gear, +545 shadow gear. Last edited by Gweedo; September 21, 2006 at 08:42 AM.. |

Re: Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
play what you want. We have 8 locks and 7 of them are conflag builds. We are naxx/aq40 as well. It really doesent make a difference in 40 man raids. |

Re: Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
Exactly. I've been MD/Ruin for quite a long time, respecced to 7/7/37 recently - my raid DPS have not dropped at all, and since I do not depend on a sacced pet to do DPS anymore, I'm almost always in the tank groups. Grinding got a lot more funny, too - even though my mana is almost empty after two elite mobs...but hey, what are mages for, then? Oh, and...thanks to my respec bug I've got MD with my imp. Gotta love insane damage and insane -threat. Will be fixed, soon, though.

Re: Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
AQ40 and Naxx work pretty well with destruction builds. If you want to achieve some middle ground between the 2 builds an NF/Conflag build might be a solid compromise. Its what I currently use and its one fun build that works well in PvE and PvP for me. It really depends on what suits your playstyle better. Last edited by Yanahdi; September 21, 2006 at 12:10 PM.. |

Re: Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
Thanks for all the replies fellas, I am also designated as a tank for the Twin Emps, so I figure the extra stam + imp imp will help out more, and I also have 4 pts in imp searing pain as well. I love this build, but I love SM/Ruin just as much :( |

Re: Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
It brings up the arguement though, which is better, NF/Conflag or Heavy D? I mean, IMO I would rather have more stam, a machine gun imp and higher searing pain crit chances than extended reach on DoT's, and a small chance to cast an insta cast shadowbolt (for PvE, yea I know we dont spam searing pain in PvE, but for twin emps tanking?). Maybe I'm wrong? |

Re: Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
The main selling point IMO for Grim Reach is the extended reach on curses. It allows you to get your Curse + Corruption up quickly so you can get in position and begin DPS. A lot of people point out that on paper NF procs dont do much for your dps. However, NF procs can allow you fine tune your position while still DPSing and can give you burst damage to get those last few shots in (can be handy on the Stoneskin gargoyles in Naxx). A lot of it hinges on your personal preference and how you fit in during PvE raiding. If you're generally imped for the MT then you obviously wont use him. I dont think any one build is better than the other, it just depends largely on what works for you and how you function in raids. |

Re: Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
Okay, I'm new here and really don't understand the builds under the titles, NF/Conflag, SM/Ruin....? Ya I get you want that talent but there are a whole bunch of talents on the way up to Conflag so is there a guild to those? |

Re: Heavy Destruction in PvE (Raids)
NF / Conflag is Nightfall / Conflag. With this build you will get grim reach and destructive reach. Basically get your destruction talents all the way to conflag and your affliction talents all the way up to nightfall and grim reach. SM/Ruin is Shadow Mastery / Ruin. Shadow mastery means investing 30 points in affliction, and Ruin 21 point in destruction up to ruin. You also get destructive reach and grim reach with this build. SM Ruin is more focused around your shadow spells, NF/Conflag focuses more on your fire spells. Well that's how I perceive it anyways :P I am currently NF/Conflag, there are loads of instant casts, curses and direct damage. In PvP shadow bolts seem to take forever to cast, that's where nightfall is great. Cast corruption on a few enemies and NF will proc a lot. |
