Have you read the gearing guide? Many times

Items/Slots in need of immediate upgrade:

  • Xiri's Gift - trinket. Only blue remaining, but adds much needed crit.
  • Shadow Cloak of Dalaran. Could use a better cloak
  • Voidheard Gloves - Considering badge gloves.
Upgrades you are currently working on:

  • Voidheard gloves - half-way to badge gloves

All about you:
I am at a turning point in WoW. I'm desperately trying to find a good raiding guild to progress into 25-man content. I believe my gear is solid, but after the countless hours of reading on here, I may have to change builds. I have tried Affliction through Kara and some of ZA. I would say that I was pretty good, but not perfect at my DoT's. I changed to Destruction, swapped some gems for a little more crit, and immediately saw over a 400dps increase. (~600dps aff, to >1000dps destro). I understand that recount isn't totally accurate converting DoT's into DPS, but the overall damage increase was staggering! They say to spec Destruction, you should be at or near hit cap (202) with at least a 20-25% crit minimum. I have noticed my DPS dropping on boss fights, I'm sure due to my hit rating. My guild has a ton of alts, so they rely on me for heavy damage on trash while gearing alts up, so that the runs don't take as long. Although I have not done a side-by-side comparison on the same boss for both builds, overall, I am needed for the burst damage offered by Destruction, which is my current justification for the spec.
My three questions are:
  1. Gear-wise, am I ready for T5/T6 25-man content. 2.
  2. IF I am recruited, what, if anything, should I change (gear, chants, gems, talents).
  3. Is your guild currently interested in recruiting an up-and-coming Lock for T5/T6 content?! (Pref. East Coast!)

Any thoughts/insite would be greatly appreciated. I love this site, and rant and rave about it in my server. Knowledge is power, and this site is full of GREAT information!

Re: Borderline Aff/Destro Build per Gear

Your guilds right man. 202 Hit, 20% crit(Although I Reckon 17% without Backlash or Devastation is enough) and about 970-1k + Shadow Damage is really a nice basis for a change to destruction (0/21/40)

Good trinkets outside of t5+ Content are kind of hard to find IMO. Your best bet is an eye of magtheridon instead of your Xiris.. Get the 60 badge badge gloves instead of the 75 badge gloves and put 2 10/8 Hit gems in it along with a 15 hit rating enchant(This IS wierd, and results in a loss of Damage, but YOU NEED HIT BOY!!!)

The other option for the trinket is to wait for a drop in SSC from FLK called the "Sextant of Unstable Currents" and its a really good item.

Outside of that, The cape from Prince would be your biggest plus right now. Prince for hit, or for the crit if you lose some - your best option there would be from High King Maulgar, which although not a very good cape - is a very situational piece IMO.

As an aff lock tho - t5 your definitely ready. T6 however, the first 2 bosses in Hyjal and MAYBE just MAYBE Najentus would be within your reach.

One last gear suggestion - get tormented demonsoul robes (100 Badges) 2 and a half % crit almost is a MUST In my Opinion.

have fun as a destruction lock

Re: Borderline Aff/Destro Build per Gear

Now I don't think you need 202 hit to try out destro, but you need to be higher than you're at. Stamina gives no dps increase really when gemmed and crit is also a poor choice if you're not close to the hit cap. All your gems should have +hit +anyting on them until you get to 202.

Second off, Recount is quite accurate within its range setting. However, the dot thing isn't a glitch. Recount gives you an average of instantaneous DPS when you're destro. This means that if you fight 10 minutes and only dps for 5 of them you can show up with 2000 dps even if you took that and averaged it over the fight and came up with 1000 dps. Dots basically make the instantaneos reading lower because there is only a second or fraction of a second between each dot tick. This means that the dps measured is closer to the average dps over the course of the fight and not just the burst time while burning.
