Raiding: What do I need to do to compete in BT?

I have had extensive time at work to read and do theorycraft. However I am bad at the theorycrafting part. I use warcrafter.net to do some of my theorycrafting and I have downloaded leulier(though I am sure I am not using it to its full potential) I was able to join a BT guild the other day as a sub and feel very lucky(only progressed to mags with former guild). I have been twice now and I think the only reason I got to stay was my skill ie I banished things when needed and kept CoT on RoS all phase 2. But my damage was dismal. I think in the 650dps range. At the time I was affliction.
Now I have regemmed and reprioritized to go destro. As the stats say I am there but I need to know what else I can do. They have most BT on farm but havent for very long so I am way down on the totem pole for bt gear. So what can I do to keep improving? What gear should I save my limited dkp on? Thanks in advance.

does your guild run Hyjal still? because there is alot of gear you can pick up in hyjal that is superior to some picked up in BT.

first, some nice gear you can get are badge feet and chest(tormented demonsoul). you could also upgrade your neck with the new s4 version (i favor haste, but at your gear level you might wanna start off crit then get haste later). Crafted bracers are also a definite +. also, ever thought of switching to a onehand & offhand weapon? if your guild still does hyjal then go for the onehand and offhand in there, if not get the s2 dagger/fetish of the primal gods (badge).

Next, you should NEVER use purple/green/blue gems to satisfy the socket bonus. unless it is close to making it worth it, (i.e. a blue socket with a socket bonus of +5 spell damage, then you can do the epic purple gem for spdmg and stam).do you have to spend your dkp to buy guild epic gems? if not... then get some. Now. and the first thing to gem is your belt, because you are NEVER gonna get rid of it (only the t6 SW belt is better).

Now to gear you are looking for in BT... tailoring plans for boots of blasting-as these are plans they shouldnt be worth too much dkp and they are a HUGE upgrade. Ring of captured storms is sure to last you.
Also, the T6 SHOULDERS would be excellent for you, should be one of the first things you spend your limited dkp on. Get the nethervoid cloak when it is no longer in high demand among your guild's locks and spriests, it is the best cloak in the game.


if your guild still does hyjal, which i imagine it still farms one nite a week, here is some stuff to look for. again, nethervoid cloak, the T6 items (gloves&head), leggings of channeled elements*, offhand from Rage, and hatefury mantle* are what come to my immediate attention.
