Help me spend my DKP

Character Name: Valimir
Armory Link: The World of Warcraft Armory
Talent Build: 0/21/40

Quick Info
Health: 9.6K
Mana: 9.3k
+Damage: +1334 shadow
+Hit: 214
+Crit: 20.98%
Have you read the gearing guide? Yes

Items/Slots in need of immediate upgrade:

  • Most of it is OK, could do with ditching my Violet Signet

Upgrades you are currently working on:
List any upgrades you are currently working on and where you are at. For example:

There's nothing left in the craftables/honor/badge loot for me, at least nothing substantial. The items I've targeted are
  • Hatefury Mantle
  • Chronicle of Dark Secrets
  • Slippers of the Seacaller
  • Ring of Captured Storms
  • Leggings of Channelled Elements
  • Maybe the Maelstrom's Fury

All about you:
My guild is currently 4/5 MH and 4/9 BT so I'm only looking at the upgrades I have realistic access to. I'm just not sure what order to get things and you know how it is sometimes when an item drops you get a bit overexcited and start bidding even though it's not a huge upgrade, but then it might be weeks between seeing any osrt of loot worth bidding on.

The one I'm most confused about is the Maelstrom's Fury. It wasn't really an issue until I read the Crit v Haste debate earlier. The Zuljin blade dropped for me on friday (along with the Hood and Wub's but lost the roll for the dagger) and in most calculations it's similar DPS to the Fury but it's also my only haste item so I'm not sure it's making much of a difference. On the other hand, the Fury would add another 1% to my crit and I know that will definitely make a difference. The next factor is it looks like we will be making a run at Archi soon and from what I've read it's not a hugely difficult fight and he drops an ace blade. So do I sit back with my haste blade and just wait for the Tempest of Chaos. Another option is to try for the Ring of Ancient Knowledge which might then give me just enough haste for it to make a decent DPS difference.

So what's the best use of my DKP for upgrades? I'm also thinking it might be better to hold off for the T6 shoulders rather than go for any of the others that drop in MH/BT.

BTW: I know I'm well over hit cap but I've spent so much on re-gemming that I've decided to just accept it for now, especially as some of those upgrades don't have any hit on them at all.

*** Information added 1142 Minutes and 31 Seconds later... ***

Got the Chronicle last night. Cost a hefty wedge of DKP but it's worth it for an item that is the best in the game for its slot.

Re: Help me spend my DKP

With your gear i would probably have to say that you should first aim for the Ring of Captured Storms, the main reason im saying this is because at the minute for where you are content wise and well into sunwell there are no better rings, infact the only 2 which compare to it are the Hyjal exalted ring and the Mana Attuned Band from za 3rd chest. I would replace your kara ring with this upgrade.

After this i would say that you should aim for the boots, the next upgrade of those for you will be from Brutalis. I wouldnt bother with the shoulders as you arent far away from Mother Sharaz and also the dagger isnt that great of an upgrade from your current wepon try get the staff off Illidan or the sword off Archimonde.

Gemming wise i would say start gemming 5 spell haste + 6 spell damage.

If you need anymore help just reply to this post with any more questions, happy to help

Re: Help me spend my DKP

hmmm it's a difficult choice because all those items... sigh. In all the runs i've done of BT and MH, i've seen each them drop only once.

Personally I would go for the items that allow you to do the most customisation. That meaning the items high on priority should be the ring (as the above poster mentioned) and...well.

I disagree with the boots. Since if you replaced them you would have to look for hit in other places which is hard to come by. Whereas if you took the leggings of channeled elements, you would have an excess of it which you could then solve by replacing other pieces of gear. It would ALSO make future gear choices very easy since you wouldn't have to look for items that specifically gave hit, instead you could focus on improving your overall stats.

I wouldn't bank on certain items. Either you get very very lucky or you get very very unlucky. The tempest of chaos i've seen twice in about 3 or 4 months and both of the people who got it, have quit. So only bank on certain items unless you're certain you're gona get them when they eventually drop.

Re: Help me spend my DKP

He can gem hit in the boots and then regem them when he gains hit in other places, remember those boots are the best till brutalis so thats why i think he should take the boots as his second upgrade

Re: Help me spend my DKP

I'd go for the Leggings before anything else (besides the Chronicle; grats), especially if you got your vials and can get the Hyjal rings. I found it's easy to get exalted if clear the 4 MH bosses every week. Of course, go for the ring if Kaz is being stingy.

Re: Help me spend my DKP

This is going to sound obvious but get the largest DPS Increase/Most Longevity first - its that simple. No point in spending DKP on an item which you can potentially replace in a month.

WoW Warlock DPS Spreadsheet is going to be your friend here, simply so that you can work out exactly what, in relation to your stats, provides the most bang per buck.

Re: Help me spend my DKP

Unfortunately my guild is one that has skipped Kael and Vashj. Bit of a shame as almost all the raid force is now exalted with Scale of the Sands so we'd all get a nice new ring. We're going back to get everyone the shadow resist necklace for Shahraz so maybe we'll give them a go then.

Cheers for the replies. I know the sheet is the best place to see what gives you the biggest dps increase but it doesn' factor in luck and the feeling of "I haven't had a drop in months, when's the next one coming along!". And it can be a bit misleading. It currently says the shoudlers from Anetheron are a bigger DPS increase than the T6 mantle but it doesn't factor in that is one step towards 4/8 T6. I suppose I was really asking where should I be ultra-patient and just let something pass. The ring seems a definite but the Slippers I'm not too sure about. I know I want them in the long term but for now I'm not certain they're worth the DKP when I have other aims like getting some T6.

Re: Help me spend my DKP

Slippers are excellent, unless you need the hit then Blasting/Shifting Nightmare are better, and the ring is definately worth getting. I'd pass on the Hatefury mantle and try for T6 - you won't replace that anytime soon.

Re: Help me spend my DKP

So I have 100 Badges right now and nothing really to spend them on other than gems. I'm considering getting the Demonsoul Robe as I'm a million miles away from T6 robe and the Vestements of the Sea Witch. The badge robe is supposed to be a 13 DPS increase and looks cooler than my current robe. Anyone think it is worth buying for me?

For destro, the Tormented Demonsoul Robes are a bit of an upgrade over the Scarlet Sin'dorei Robes because of the crit. Do you ever run as affliction? You'll want to hang on to your original robes for that spec. I rather covet the Robes of Rhonin, but we need to go back after Archi for those.
