3.1 Ulduar Gearing

I can't find Pimp My Lock anymore :|

At any rate this is a partial Pimp my Lock and partial QQ about Ulduar gearing.

So far I have had my fair share of drops and am quite happy - apart from one thing. Item stats.

I am finding it exceptionally difficult to add gear in without huge changes being made. I am finding myself now sitting on a few pieces purely because I cannot seem to find a way to work them into my set.

To explain - my armory link in my profile is my current Affliction set of gear.
I also run a generic Destro build sometimes and have a set of gear that has higher crit but a reduction in haste (its a 2% swap of haste for crit). The main changes in the destro build is the introduction of Handwraps of Resonance, Leggings of Atrophy, and swapping the Chain of the Ancient Wyrm for Chain of Latent Energies to maintain the hit cap.

I've been lucky to get these other following drops.
Unraveling Reach
Leggings of Unstable Discharge
Mantle of the Preserver

Ideally I'd love to use these pieces but I am finding that I am either way over on the hit cap (and don't know where I'd start to respec in dropping suppression) or have lost large chunks of haste and spellpower.

Quite simply my QQ portion is that I think Blizz has gone too far in their itemisation. Having over 100 points of one stat like hit on a single item feels like bludgeoning to me. Whilst I am sure that in the overall scheme of things it makes sense to have such high stats on the item, I for the life of me am struggling to add these items into my sets. Unlike Naxx or Naxx25 where it wasn't such a stress to add new pieces into an existing gearset, Ulduar gear just seems too over the top with the way it's throwing around huge stats on gear, ie Elemental Focus Stone (104 hit).

Does anyone else think/feel the same? And any suggestions on what to trade in/out to try to work those pieces into my gearsets?

To some degree, I agree with that commentary that the stats are not always easy to work with in terms of Ulduar gear.

I think the answer to your question is that you need probably 2-3 pieces at a time to make certain upgrades worthwhile. So elemental focus stone has 108 hit... OK, well then you might need to replace 2 hit pieces with things with actual direct DPS stats then before you put it on.

I think some of your problem is also that you haven't progressed yet to kill all the keepers in your guild I guess. Some of your issues will be helped a bit if you can get T8 instead of non-set pieces to fill in. Your itemization issues will start to become less of a problem if you do full clears of ulduar.

With that said, I have at least 5 pieces now that are situational. I use elem focus stone over dying curse when I am in a 10man raid without boomkin or spriest for the extra +hit. But normally my dying curse keeps me where I want to be generally speaking. I currently re-itemized a bit after I got the T8.5 helm with badges to have to use the frozen loop +hit ring. Although when I get my T8 or T8.5 legs, I plan to wear ignis shoulders and then wear Uld10 Assembly of Iron Haste/Spirit/SP ring. Right now I wear t7.5 legs and shoulders. But once I get the legs, my 2/2 bonus will be broken and I will wear Ignis25 shoulders.

Etc

You know what I mean? As long as you are not taking away someone elses significant upgrade, being able to itemize a bit with your trinkets etc can be quite helpful.

So yeah I've kind of noticed the upgrades are not linear. They move sideways a bit to be able to move forward eventually.

I think part of your problem is that you've cleared naxx25, are wearing naxx25 gear and now expect upgrades in Ulduar10

You haven't done a single boss in ulduar25 where your upgrades should be (naxx25 => ulduar 25)

My shammy has 0 upgrades in ulduar10 ( non hardmode ) but several upgrades in ulduar10 hardmode purely because she's a 25s raider. compared to my pally who is geared exclusively in 10s gear... there's a fair few upgrades to be had.

Re: Ulduar Gearing

No I agree I think the fact that I have pugged into Naxx25 when a lot of the raiding I do is mainly 10man is probably not helping.

But even then, the upgrades in Ulduar25 still have the huge jumps etc in stats that 10man does - except they are higher in 25s.

I think I will just wait it out and slot things in when I have room for them and just keep piecing together what I can :(
