[WotLK] New Talent - Haunt. Anyone played with it?

Has anyone played with this yet?

Haunt 12% of base mana
1.5 sec cast 10 sec cooldown

You send a ghostly soul into the target, dealing 645 to 754 Shadow damage and increasing all damage done by your damage-over-time effects on the target by 15% for 12 sec. When the Haunt spell ends or is dispelled, the soul returns to you, healing you for 20% of all damage done to the target.

The part I am looking at is the "healing you for 20% of all damage done to the target." Looks to me like this is seriously OP. Lets play with some figures ... making these up, they are not unreasonable. A lot of us will be doing more.

Corruption ticks for 500
UA ticks for 500
Haunt ticks for 500
Siphon LIfe ticks for 200

Thats 1700 a tick. Add 15% from the Haunt effect and you get 1955. It runs for 12 seconds, so multiply that by 4 and you have 7820 damage in 12 seconds. Haunt says it will be healing you for 20% of all damage done to the target. That would be 1564. Of course, that is if you were just standing still for 12 seconds. Lets throw in 2 shadow bolts at 3000 each, and we are getting healed for 2764. Every twelve seconds.

Anyone else smell a nerf on that?

Well seed of corruption is worded the same way and that pops from damage anyone deals, not just you.

Soo.. Im wondering if thats a full heal every 12 seconds in a raid situation? (even with 15k health at 80, that requires a total raid dps of only around 6000)

That would be sweet.

re: [WotLK] New Talent - Haunt. Anyone played with it?

6000 Raid DPS is about what is needed to kill Gruul, right?
6000 * 12 seconds is 72,000
20% of 72,000 is 14,400 healed from Haunt.

This is why I'm asking. There is NO WAY that goes into the game live. Even if it is just your damage, thats a free life tap every 12 seconds. If you are affliction, you already have Siphon Life running, do you really need another 2500 healed every 12 seconds?

Any warlocks in the BETA around here?

The spell takes only your damage over time effects into consideration. It will be the same in raid and out of raid is my guess. I'm thinking that the healing portion works the same way.

I could be wrong. I know that I was with Seed of Corruption when it first came out, I thought for sure that it wouldn't work in a chain reaction type way (seeding 2-3 targets and having one explode setting all the others off) it sounded very OP to me.

Ofcourse, looking at the Beta patch notes, so many of our current spells/abilities are being nerfed, that might be to help balance all these new abilities that seem rather OP? seems to me that will cause issues though.

I understand that it only increases damage of damage-over-time effects. My question was in regards to the healing aspect. The tooltip states "healing you for 20% of all damage done to the target." I seriously doubt it will include raid damage there, since the numbers I listed above would make it more than just a little overpowered.

Even if it is just healing me for 20% of all damage I do to the target, I still think that might be a little much.

+ all those nasty shadow bolt ( Nightfall anyone?

AND just think about it , if your on a codoom duty...

If you look at the video's its 20% of the damage done by casting player only. Its not anything like good enough to give Affliction a DPS boost (because its eating a GCD without yielding massive returns) but the healing utility could be quite awesome if you're in the middle of a rotation on a raid boss and throw a haunt out...then lifetap...

It will have its uses.

re: [WotLK] New Talent - Haunt. Anyone played with it?

Assuming Haunt is direct damage and not a DoT, it should be doing 1200-1500 damage.

tooltip says "dealing 645 to 754 Shadow damage". Assuming a 42%-ish coefficient (1.5 cast time / 3.5 = 42.85%). Assuming you have +1500 shadow damage at level 80 (not unreasonable, and probably low) then 1500*.4285 is 642.75 damage.

645 base + 642.75 = 1287.75
754 base + 642.75 = 1396.75

So lets just round it a little into 1275 - 1400 damage
plus increasing your DoT damage by 15%
plus healing you for 20% of something.

Its really the something that I am trying to figure out. Is it just the Haunt damage? Is it just the DoT damage? Is it really ALL damage done by the warlock?

Against a raid boss, or anything that lives long enough to be worth the GCD, I'm wondering if this would replace siphon life in an affliction warlock's rotation. Especially since I've read that the initial damage can crit.
