So Felhounds will now be useless for detecting stealth?

Ok so with the changes being made to the felhound spells am I correct in that we will no longer be able to use them to detect stealthers? Thats bad news for PvP battlegrounds. That means that alot more rouges will get past the horde choke points in AV for one.

Or am I mistaken? Will there now be no way of detectnig stealthers?

This is news to me, I use my puppy the most in AV because of them sneaky rogues and druids.

In Wrath of the Lich King, Fel Puppies will no longer have Paranoia. Instead they will gain a shadow bite and fel intellect ability. To detect stealthers, we'll have to rely on our Void Walker's and their "Consume Shadows" ability which will now reveal stealthers to our entire raid/party in range of the VW. This means our VW will have to stand still channeling the same spell every 6 seconds to increase our awareness.

I found this solution an excellent way to break a good pet. Poor puppy. :P

From what I have seen of the changes made in Wrath of the Lich King, there will be an ability/talent for big blue (voidwalker) to detect stealth. Last I saw, it was available while channeling or some such thing. I am too lazy to look it up right now (also have work to do ).

Re: So Felhounds will now be useless for detecting stealth?

Well that's a bummer. That means that we will no longer be able to activly search for stealthers. Have to have our pets stationary and cast. Kind of useless if you ask me.

Has anyone in beta been able to test this out yet? I'd like to know if its true the blueberry must remain still for it to work. If so, its kind of useless.

I'd like to hear some beta feedback on this. It sounds great that the entire raid can benefit from it but if it only works for whats immediatly around a stationary blueberry I fail to see its usefullness in practice. I hope this is one thing that will change before release.

Re: So Felhounds will now be useless for detecting stealth?

I don't know if anyone has tried it yet, but seeing as all channeled spells require the caster to remain stationary, I have to believe that the VW won't be moving anywhere.

Consume Shadows is a channeled spell, and the VW hasn't moved yet while casting it so far.

The only thing that might help it is if Consume Shadows is a lot stronger than Paranoia was. I mean, a lot more. Like, for the rogue to operate as it currently does, the rogue will need points in the subtlety tree for improved stealth. Perhaps it isn't a cone like paranoia was, but a full 360 around you.

I really would like a new pet or our old ones get a skin upgrade. I love them Nether Voids, they have freaking armor.

Consume Shadows is a more potent stealth detection buff than Paranoia, but it's not quite as strong as Perception. The buff from the Voidwalker has a 30 yard range, anyone in your party will get it while he channels Consume Shadows (he can sit there while you run around looking for stealthers).

Re: So Felhounds will now be useless for detecting stealth?

I think it's going to be as it was intended now with the VW and felhunter. VW is the melee defense and felhunter is the caster defense. A felhunter is a useless pet in pvp when there are no casters or stealth and once the stealthed players are unstealthed he's once again useless. Giving stealth detection to the VW was a better option considering his MD buff is physical damage reduction which usually comes paired with stealthed players(ferals and rogues). Honestly it makes more sense to me, but I'd rather see the stealth detection as an aura still. That I think is due to all auras affecting entire raids rather than just parties so it would be a little bit OP in BG's other than premades where you are not necessarily going to be with your party.

Re: So Felhounds will now be useless for detecting stealth?

Actually, what I would like to see is a Felguard with stealth detection:

  1. Felguard detects rogue sneaking up on his master.
  2. Felguard intercepts rogue. Rogue is stunned.
  3. Felguard cleaves rogue.
  4. Warlock puts dots on rogue, shadowburns, and generally pawns rogue in less than 30 seconds.
  5. Felguard gets a treat (rogues soul).
