My biggest disappointment with Locks in Wrath

Rant inc...

Of course things are still subject to change, but i think it's safe to say, I won't be getting my wish.

Last year, my fellow warlock guildmates and I where having a discussion as to what they should add, if they ever had another expansion. One of the consensus was regarding the overall useless Infernal. We more or less bounced around the idea of a talent that lets you summon infernals as non enslaved demons, and to add to it, they weren't completly useless (as they are now)

Just to make them act as powerful as they look. If you see the origional world of warcraft cinematic, there's infernals everywhere with the very angry undead warlocks, and if you didn't play the game and know how laughable they are, you'd be a little intimidated. (It's what got me to roll a warlock)

This wouldn't have to be limited to the Infernals, but show some love for the doomguards as well. If you've seen my video about warlock demons, you'll know just how little I think of both of them in their current states.

But no, instead of fixing existing useless warlock abilities that COULD be very nice, they go completely off and add a bunch of new pvp spells. And to top it off, they add new abilities to the demons that don't fail, making the terrible twosome look even more pathetic. (On a side note, have they bothered to fix the level 50 demons bug yet?)

I'm glad they FINNALY realised that firestones are a waste of game data space as is, and are doing something about it. I'm just a little agrevated they aren't adressing the glaring faults in what COULD be some of hte coolest parts of being a warlock

/ rant

A Blue post I cannot find right now said something to the effect of they haven't redone the doomguard yet, but they're going to.

(I assume you know what has already changed with the Infernal - that it now remains under your control and then - true to WC3 - dies. )

Well, I'm usually not the complaining type, but DrkSnpr has a point here, ...
When I see an overenthusiastic rogue mining (it's about the only thing they do unstealthed these days), I feel an itchy tingle in my fingertips, and it's hard to resist the urge to throw an Infernal stone in the air, and watch the beauty of a green meteor shower smack the Rogue from left to right, while I turn my marshmallows on the fire... however the reality is, if the shadowhugger, doesn't get a heartattack from laughter, he smacks the Infernal like a small bug and comes ruin my perfectly tasty marshmallows.
As for the Doomguard, well it's not much Doom and even lesser Guard ...

Re: My biggest disappointment with Locks in Wrath

Actually, I just tried the new infernal, it's on a 20 minute cooldown and has a 1 minute duration (it breaks apart after 1 minute).

There is only one word to describe it... Divine.
The Infernal's fire aura deals 200 fire damage per second to all around it. And its melee attacks deal about 300 damage per hit. It's very hard to kill as well. I tried it out in Vengeance landing against a level 69 Wild Worg. The infernal accidentally pulled 4 of them. Just to see what potential it has, I let it take care of the Worgs without interfering. The Infernal won with about 20% of its HP left. It's also the same level as the Warlock again.

Hope this brightens your day! I'll try and round up some folks for a doomguard today. =)

Edit: I've a lot more to say, so I'm making a new topic. The Infernal's damage also scales with spellpower.

Re: My biggest disappointment with Locks in Wrath

My Wrath wishlist went like this:

1. Give us an escape mechanism
2. Green fire for our spells
3. A class specific flying mount
4. Make demons useful in PVE for something other than Blood Pact or saccing
5. Make the Infernal and Doomguards viable

I think they're addressing most of those one way or another (I have hopes that green fire will come with a glyph).

Not sure if I suggested it on these forums or another but my idea was to make Infernals and Doomguards summonable (without silly requirements like a 5 man group with one of them dying). These demons can be enslaved for up to 30 minutes if you take 2 points in the Improved Enslave Demon talent. In one move that would fix Inernals, Doomguards and a talent that is currently pointless that no one ever takes.

EDIT: TheAkrab's description of the Infernal doesn't sound good at all. It still seems to be dealing the same sort of damage it always did (until the current bug that hit live servers) but it has a bit more HP. Worse than that, you only get it for 1 minute!! Utterly pointless. Once again Blizz make a complete frack-up of a fix.

Re: My biggest disappointment with Locks in Wrath

Mostly PvP player and I like the potentitially more variable spec choices.

I don't like the fact we don't get new pets. Why don't we get a 51 Talent to permanently keep one real world demon as our own demon? Requires balancing, yes, but if they can do this with a dozen + exotic hunter's pets with TALENT trees (envy!).
Overpowered demons just can't be perma-enslaved.

So from the "class style" side I am not utterly impressed, game mechanics look fine though.

Re: My biggest disappointment with Locks in Wrath

Blizzard have stated they'll get round to addressing Infernals/Doomguards and honestly, I couldn't care less about the two that get the least useage. The pets that ARE used have been nicely buffed, and we get some very tasty new talents to play with no matter our preffered playstyle.

My only gripe at the moment is that I would dearly love to see more confirmed pictures of the Tier sets (when I saw pre-release pictures of Netherblade, I couldn't WAIT to get raiding again.....quality pictures might even rekindle my desire to play a Warlock....then again...it might not...).

I hope they do, if they dont then I'll need to make a decision if I want to buy the expansion right away or wait and try out warhammer.
I love my warlock, its my only level 70 character and the only character I leveled past 45 in 3+ years but instead they ignore the other 2 warlock pets, not even new skin for them while giving all sorts of pet love to hunters.

Re: My biggest disappointment with Locks in Wrath

Yeah utter nothing for minion love really hurt - if I do go Wrath of the Lich King likely Hunter is one of my mains, Paladin vying for the spot as well with their re-mix. DK looks interesting but that's what happens when one class gets all the attention, how stupid many of those are going to be out of the gate, being able to start at 55? The warlock design/direction/trees in Wrath of the Lich King are just looking like such a mess...

I'll probably just leave my 'lock on dailies and provide for others, if I stick with it =b

Sigh, even here 'stop whining' /igiveup
Oh I'm sorry, that's right, we're not allowed to discuss how Wrath of the Lich King is shaping up to disappoint.

I just don't see anything in Wrath of the Lich King for the Warlock that excites me, per DrkSnpr and neej
And frankly even with a little attention, that didn't have to be the case
