upcoming change: New affliction dot

There will be a new talent in Affliction in an upcoming build.

Keywords: "DoT" and "Crit" (Well, sorta)

WoW Forums -> The Devs are listening (maybe)

I let out a great big "Ooooooooooooh!" (think Ruby Rhod here) when I saw that on MMO's blue tracker.

Re: upcoming change: New affliction dot

I wonder if its gonna be a new spell/ability? or up our spell power based on crit percent? or allow our dots to have a chance to crit?

I wonder if they're planning on doing the same thing with haste?

Re: upcoming change: New affliction dot

being able to fire and forget 3 to 5 dots and have each of them able to crit is kinda OP

then again who knows maybe they'll let certain dots crit or the last tic to crit or some new fancy mechanic.

Re: upcoming change: New affliction dot

It's not OP in the current beta, and with massive health levels of other classes, resistance mechanics, abilities to wipe/remove dots, etc.

I've been fighting against warriors, death knights and others in the beta and you have to remove your mindset from where we are now in Live, to where we will be in the expansion. When you begin live, your health has already dropped. Warriors on the other hand have tons more health and dual wield 2-handed swords .... and be prepared for being death gripped by zillions of death knights.

Dots, and warlocks, in that context are by no means overpowered. The opposite, in fact, as any beta tester who does pvp will now tell you. (Resilience too of course...). In PvE, half the time your dots don't even run their full duration, thereby gimping their overall damage, too.

Bring on some form of dot-scaling with crit and haste. The EU and US beta forums have had some great suggestions for this:

WoW-Europe.com Forums - Warlock

and

WoW Forums - Warlock Discussion

Re: upcoming change: New affliction dot

I fear that this is only the "making drain life etc" ticks able to crit.

And that is as I stated before.. More or less useless, at least for PvE.

If they wanted to do something to make affliction scale better, why not just make DoT runtime be reduced by +haste.
Cant understand why this isnt implemented.

Re: upcoming change: New affliction dot

I suppose my big hope is that they allow each tick of a DoT a chance to crit. I get the feeling affliction is going to be the way to go for raiding in Wrath - all the cool stuff is in that tree. Might be nice, haven't raided as affliction for ages.

Re: upcoming change: New affliction dot

Yeah. that would be good (and why not fair)

even for PvP would be awesome , imagine if we had 15% crit which is low, would be still good

That would be one more reason to go to affliction to raid and PvP

Re: upcoming change: New affliction dot

As is stands affliction is behind destruction in terms of raid DPS - there's no question of that so a change to DoTS (allowing a talented chance to crit seems likely as at least one other class already has that) could allow it to be competitive.

I doubt we'll see much difference to be honest, at least in the early raids and then of course it depends entirely on gear scaling as to which pulls ahead.
