Help: FLK - Need Input

Preamble:

I reached 70 last Thursday. My gear is pretty bad, but I'm a firm believer that gear comes in time. In the meantime I'm trying to work on maximizing my output.

My guild is in BT/MH, and they run T5 for fun once a week. This week they were short about 7 people and I managed to sneak into the raid with 800 shadow damage - sweet!

Boss: Fathom Lord

I thought I was doing alright until I looked at the parse for FLK and compared my output to the other Affliction lock in the raid (using Canadian Pimps great post on WWS as a guide).

I know I have to work on my dot uptime, but what I was not prepared for was the difference in shadow bolt casting. She casted 86 times to my 52.

Maybe I do not understand the mechanics of dark pacting/life tapping and that is killing my SB volume ... I don't know. I'm at a complete loss to explain why she got that many more bolts in, and thought I would present this to you guys.

Does the other lock have haste gear? Is their talents put into destro for the reduced SB casting time? Are yours? Did the other lock have a shaman/spriest and you didn't? All these can lead to more SB's than what you had for a given amt of time. Or it could be that you just need to refine your rotation some to pick up a bit of extra time.

Looking at her in full raid buffs she's sitting right under 1488 shadow damage. Obviously she has a little more experience than you and should be doing quite a bit more damage than you. Most likely that is translating into better timed refreshes and less movement. I expect since you are new to raiding that you moved around quite a bit and lost a lot of casts from that. BTW did you cancel any sb's to refresh? Did you always let your dots get that last tick? All of that is important. FLK isn't a particularly movement heavy fight as long as you move from tornadoes you can pretty much stand and nuke.
