Help: Brutallus - Destro 0/21/40

We finally got Brutallus down after 50 or so attempts over the past few weeks and I know my dps is horrible. My question is, how much more dps can I squeeze out with my current gear/spec until something that's an upgrade drops? Report Wow Web Stats Armory The World of Warcraft Armory Group make-up for the kill was, Warlock-me, Warlock 0/21/40, Mage,Paladin and Druid. We've had a problem finding decent shadow priests so for the time being they are used in one of the healing groups and another caster group(if we have 2 spriests) I used mana pots every cd over destro pots and my trinket 3 times during the kill. Am I lifetapping too much? Not enough? Basically I'm just looking to see if I'm on the correct type of rotation for sb spam/lifetap and mana pots etc. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Armory is currently showing me using the T6 robe, I use Tormented demon soul robe and badge pvp +47 spell damage trinket for raids.

Well, based on your gear and the WWS I would say the problem is your group. Did they want you to do more damage than that with a paladin and druid? You hit Lifetap 13 times! with a shadow priest and resto shaman you would have needed to Lifetap 3 or 4 times max, that is 15 sec (-whatever your haste is) of casting time you didnt get to do which goes a long way to keeping a sustained DPS number high.

If I had to guess, I woudl say you had 3 groups build properly, and 2 groups of casters/healers mixed with no real group support, but one getting the real shaft since they didnt even get a shaman for totems or hero.

Bottom line, dont get down on yourself...with your gear, without a shadow priest, shaman for hero and totems, a failboat drummer (1 drums buff??) and burn... 1726 dps is just fine. All those group bufs easily add 300 dps to a 0/21/40 build, probably more.

Yeah - Soulzaar saying pretty much what I thought from looking at stats - even your crit % was a lot lower, probably from lack of the buff, and I put your low number of SB's down to Haste differences and the fire.

I was in a similarly grouping due to raid necessities on our last Brutallus kill, and with no fires on me dropped from 2380 to 2036, about 350 dps just from party structure and other buff lacks - heroism, drums etc.

Disappointing, but Im not going to worry about it :-) (oh - we still killed - but in the enrage :-( )

Thanks for the input guys. Usually we have an ele shaman in the lock group but he isnt always able to make raids so we kinda deal with what we have at the time. As for haste, I'm sitting at 71 I think the other 2 warlocks are in the area of 200ish or so. Yay for swapping mains late in the game


I guess its just waiting out on gear to drop now and the consistency of some other raiders to pick up for the time being.

Wrong! There are many things you can do outside of scheduled raids to improve your character/DPS, until you do you have no right to complain about being in crappy groups, if you don't take your own character seriously how can you expect other people to?!

Enchant Weapon - Soulfrost - Spell - World of Warcraft on your weapon instead of 40 spell damage
Guardian's Pendant of Subjugation - Item - World of Warcraft instead of your current neck
Darkmoon Card: Crusade - Item - World of Warcraft instead of the PVP trinket
Boots of Incantations - Item - World of Warcraft instead of your current boots (socket with Reckless Pyrestone - Item - World of Warcraft)
Bracers of Nimble Thought - Item - World of Warcraft instead of your current bracers
Reckless Pyrestone - Item - World of Warcraft in your leg socket instead of 12 damage


I modeled your character as listed in your original post (including Badge chest and PVP trinket) and came out with 1729 DPS in my spreadsheet (awfully close to your actual DPS). I then modeled your character with the above-mentioned changes and listed 1805 DPS. That's a 76 DPS increase you just got without having to step foot inside a raid. Until you start doing these why should your raid leader take you seriously enough to put you in the good caster groups?

Do you have any better rings? The Kara one is absolutely terrible, if you have ANY thing with a higher item level say so now, you can make your gear fit it.


You also need to start running ZA, you need these:

Hex Shrunken Head - Item - World of Warcraft
Mana Attuned Band - Item - World of Warcraft

If you got both of the above items you would have enough spell hit to let you use Carved Witch Doctor's Stick - Item - World of Warcraft socketed with Reckless Pyrestone - Item - World of Warcraft.

If you got the 2 above ZA items and the above mentioned badge wand this would raise your DPS to 1851.

So in conclusion, without ever stepping foot into an instance, you can raise your DPS by 76.

By getting 2 items in ZA, and then getting a new wand (thru badges) you can then raise your DPS another 46 points.

In total a massive 122 DPS you could have essentially for free by running ZA on off nights and getting those items above taken care of when you have free time.

Again just remember..this goes to anybody..why should the raid leader take you seriously and give you a good group if you don't take yourself seriously? Always look for ways to improve.
