Warlock Armor Sets

Tier Sets

While leveling, most Warlocks will find their gear comes from a variety of different places, including but not limited to quests, drops and more than likely, the Auction House. Once you close in on the end levels however, you can start looking to armor sets, which not only provide similar (yet improved) statistics and enhancements, they also provide additional bonuses when wearing multiple pieces. The benefit of this is you not only improve your base stamina, intellect and bonus damage from the actual pieces themselves, but you also have the ability to further increase them just by wearing more of the same set. These are called 'set bonuses'.

The armor sets below are classified as both 'Dungeon Sets' as well as 'Tier Sets'. There are a few differences between the two - pieces for the dungeon sets drop in endgame 5 man instances (and UBRS for the pre BC sets), meaning you can attempt to collect them with normal guild and pick up groups. The tier sets however, all drop in the higher end 'raid' instances and as such will require you to be part of a guild or group capable of raiding them. The other difference between the two is that dungeon sets are not restricted to be worn by a sole class, something to remember when running with a Mage or Priest...

Pre BC & Post BC

I've separated all the sets into pre and post BC below. When looking at the pre BC options, bear in mind that while they are still good sets, unless you have a dedicated group to help you obtain them, you may have trouble. The reason for this is that most of the pre BC sets require you enter raid instances that just don't compare to the post BC world, and as such a lot of people will not simply bother with them. This makes it a little difficult to get the drops. They are certainly still worthy of being included however.

PvP Sets

For those that don't have the time, or the inkling to raid and instance for the sets above, PvP sets are an option. To obtain these sets, you will need to take part in Battlegrounds and obtain both Honor Points and Battleground Tokens. The Arena sets require Arena points. There are different Battlgrounds you can choose to participate in - Warsong Gultch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley and Eye of the Storm. Each Battleground (BG) has different requirements, so please see those threads to learn more. While taking part, you will earn both Honor and Tokens which you can then hand in to your respective NPC for pieces of armor. To learn more about how to obtain honor, please see the official 'How to Gain Honor' guide and F.A.Q.

Arena rewards are obtained from a goblin named Vixton Pinchwhistle in Area 52 in Netherstorm. He can be found in a hut in the north part of the town, near the inn - look for the two ogre bodyguards standing outside. Just to be tricky however, Arena's are season based, and each Arena Season will bring a unique set of Arena Rewards. Two seasons' worth of arena gear will be available at a time, with the off-season gear being discounted by 15%. Once season 3 starts, for example, season 1 gear will no longer be available; season 2 gear will however be available at a 15% discount.

To learn more about Arenas, please see the official page here, or the wowwiki page here.

Crafted Sets (Tailoring)

Prior to the Burning Crusade expansion, Tailored armor sets were not comparable to what you could obtain via other means and as such never really considered past a few pieces. Post BC however, the specialty sets rival Tier 5 and are seen as adequate right up until Tier 6. Couple these sets in with the pieces you can create via Spellstrike or Battlecast and you can equip your Warlock up very nicely. Don't be fooled however, for equipment this nice, it will take a lot of work (gathering) and you will need to max your Tailoring skill. If you are limited in time, and don't particularly want to spend it all in PvP Battlegrounds and Arena's, crafting your own armor is definitely something to look at.

To learn more about the individual pieces outside of sets that Tailoring can offer - please see the "Tailored for Warlocks" Guide.

Specialty sets

Once you reach a minimum skill of 350 in Tailoring, you are able to select a Tailoring Specialization. You can only choose one specialization, however the special cloth required for each set is tradable and you can respec if you make a mistake. Shadoweave Tailoring (Shadow) or Spellfire Tailoring (Fire) will be the two specializations you will look into and what you decide will mostly depend on your play style and build. Generally speaking most Affliction/DoT orientated Warlocks go for Shadoweave, where as the Destruction/Fire orientated will look towards Spellfire.

Set Levels - Please note each piece within a set has its own level requirement. Please see each set for individual requirments.

Other Sets

The sets below fall under 'other' for multiple reasons. They are not classified as Tier Sets, yet they will require the ability to raid in order to obtain them. Included because they are still Warlock sets, they are from old world raiding instances which most guilds will simply bypass. While certainly worth a look, you will find better alternatives via the other sets above.
